I am an Indian student currently in my junior year at High School. I am interested in applying to a few US universities, but I am pretty much totally dependent on financial aid (Family Income< USD 20000).
GPA- 4.0 ( A grade in every subject till now)
    Leadership- Senior Minister in school
Academics- National Scholar( among top 1000), awarded by Government
EC- National Level quizzer( won quite a few national level competitions),National level Semifinalist in Spell Bee, Finished 2 official exams in Indian Classical Music, Play table tennis (and secured 3rd in national level TT competition conducted by an educational organisation my school is a part of),participated in quite a few debates and essay competitons
    Social work- None
SAT & SAT subjects- Yet to be taken

I am interested in pursuing Chemical Engineering/Chemistry/Material Science & Engineering at
    1) Cornell
    2) University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign

    I have a few questions
    1) How high do I need to score in SAT?
    2) Am I on the right track?
    3) Could you suggest some more universities where I stand a chance?
    3) Will the lack of social work affect my chances? I have quite a valid reason for leadership skills though ( have changed schools).
    Thanks in advance

How do you think the profile stacks up?

    hezekiel,

Do you know that UIUC is a public university and it doesn't offer aid to international students?

Take a look at this list.

Top 50 Affordable Colleges with a High ROI

Also the Cost of Attendance - COA, is different and higher for International Students. So do check on each of these colleges websites, colleges that may interest you, to check COA for you as an International Student. But it would still be cheaper than some of the very expensive private colleges.

hey , firefliesdance , i am thinking f applying to cornell. SAT I 2250 ( M-800 CR 750 W 700) SAT II - NOT GIVEN YET, EC'S are fine. Should i apply for early decision? Also how many indians get selected for tata scholarship , like what is the % ?

Cornell will admit you without consideration of your financial circumstances. So if you do not get TATA, you are on your own to find the money.

Applying early means you HAVE the money.

Internationals from India at Cornell stand very little chance of financial aid. ED assumes that you know your financial position and if you get in, you are able to pay for it. If not, you need to cancel your admission in order to apply to any other school.

    texaspg-
If you apply ED to colleges like Dartmouth or Amherst which are need-blind for Internationals as well, there is no significant impact on how they consider your application right? Maybe it just shows interest towards that college.

hezekiel - As long as they are supportive of internationals for FA, yes.

ED schools are locked in which means you should only apply to one which gives FA to internationals without any limitations.

    BTW,
1.If i am applying to say,8 colleges, doesn't it get obscenely expensive to send the Collegeboard reports to all of them?
    2. 8 colleges- 2 reaches..4 matches and 2 safety..
right way to go about it?

The collegeboard reports are 10$ each. It is the app fees that can get expensive unless you are able to get waivers.
