When should I apply to US colleges (mit, harvard)?

I'm currently studying in class 11th and I'm a bit confused that when should I be applying to the US colleges like MIT, Harvard and stanford. I know that their application deadlines are generally during end of year. So should i be applying during my class 12th (2016-17; during end of 2016) or should i apply after passing 12th (2017-18; during end of 2017).

Thanks if you can help me out. :)

In the US, the semester usually starts in late August or early September (MIT begins early Sept.), and application deadlines for these schools are typically October to December, depending on whether you apply EA/ED. So make your plans accordingly.

In india our schools (11th and 12th), generally start from April and last till March of next year.

So if i understood everything clearly then it means that i should be applying during my mid-class-12th, which would be around nov-dec. Am i right?

That sounds like a good idea.

Remember to also apply to "safety" schools as it is competitive for nearly everyone.
