Don't do research just for the sake of having something good on your college apps. Research will take a lot of time and effort. If you do research just for the sake of doing it, you will not enjoy it, and you will just end up wasting your time. No professor is going to be looking for an high schooler to assist him/her(unless you're someone like Reid Barton or Evan O'Dorney). You have to email professors and convince them to let you be an assistant/mentor you. You will find emails of every professor on colleges' faculty lists. So, go to some college's faculty list, find some prof and email him/her.
