Admission In Canada

Currently in my high school, I am allowed to drop a class. French III is on my radar, but my peers claim that I need three years of French to apply to Canadian universities like Waterloo or British Columbia. Hence my question is that is this claim true as I already have 2 years of French, do I need one more? O.o
