Biomedical Engineering?

I think what I want to do is tissue engineering, where I could conduct experiments, work in a lab and do research where there is heavy biology and on a molecular level. Are there jobs actually like this? From what I understand many biomedical engineering majors get hired out by several big companies and make prosthetics or medical tools.
