JMU Admissions class of 2024

Sounds like we are in for a long wait for admissions, scholarships and financial aid packages. Let’s keep each other company and answer each other’s questions while we wait. My DD20 has applied EA. Anyone else out there ? If so, which is your favorite airport/route to campus?

My daugther has applied EA in addition to VT, South Carolina, NC State, Clemson, and Georgia. I think she wants to collect college admissions or something!

We are in Richmond so JMU is closest.

Hi! My daughter applied for EA as well. We are in-state but a good ways away from JMU. I agree, I think we’re going to be waiting a while for a decision from JMU.
This is the only in-state school my DD applied to. She would prefer to go OOS.
Thus far, she has only received a decision from one (1) of the schools she has applied to (U. of Tenn).

My DD applied EA and is anxiously awaiting the decision. She has acceptances from a few but JMU is tied for #1 choice. She will hear from the other school in December so I hope JMU comes out before 2nd week of January as I have read!

On a Facebook page, a JMU official said they were going to try to release the early decisions in December this year.

We can only speculate that its true until we see something official.

I think they had a lower yield from accepted students last year (they had to go heavy into waitlist) so maybe they want to entice more to accept early so they get better feel for their needs in regular admission. There are a number of schools that are trying to do everything they can to get well qualified students accepting - there is real competition out there with other colleges.

With the changes to admissions rules all colleges and universities are bracing for the new normal. Retaining students, even after they accept and pay the deposit, will be a challenge now that other schools can continue to proposition individuals well into their freshman year and beyond.

Yes, it was official. In the past the decisions came out later.

1istthebest133, One of my daughters attends JMU and on the JMU parents page, which is not public, an administrator posted that EA decisions will be released in December.

@Cheeringsection She loves JMU! She got involved with some clubs and is studying social work. My daughter who is now applying to JMU wants to major in advertising and media. As a parent I love how organized the school is.

After checking several private JMU Facebook pages I can confirm that a member of the JMU administration, who would have line of sight to the admissions calendar, did report that their plan is to release EA decisions prior to winter break. That should mean decisions will be released by Friday, December 13th. Good luck everyone.

Has anyone seen any other statements about EA decisions besides the fb post?

@1isthebest133 I have not seen anything and something tells me that it will not be coming before XMas. Unless they are going to do what some other schools like UGA do where they just accept the top top students with GPA and SAT optional only, then i dont see how they could get thru all those applications in 6 weeks

@1isthebest133 I don’t think there is any way the university would ever make an official statement about a potentially early EA date. The author of the Facebook post is very reliable and not a person that would offer information to parents, even somewhat privately, without ample evidence.
