^^ at least early acceptances are higher? I applied bio as first choice and chem as 2nd. and my essays are soso
I'm just really scared because all everyone thought my friends were going to get into UPenn and Cornell ED and I was pretty confident in them, and nobody was accepted so I'm freaking out like crazy for JHU
  • baribaribaribari Registered User Posts: 46 Junior Member
I just really wish JHU would release an update on what the the decisions are being released so I'm not fiddling on my phone all day checking my email lol.

Yeah I'm really anxious/borderline freaking out too. I also just found out that one of the people that sits a lunch table away from me also applied ED to JHU, and I didn't know, so for the past week I've been freaking out to my friends about this and she's probably been within earshot lol. Decision day is going to be really awkward, or really happy.

Does anyone else have "Entrance Loan Counseling-Undergraduate" and "Sub/Unsub Master Promissory Note" missing in your financial aid checklist in the student portal?
  • 13626Lah13626Lah Registered User Posts: 19 New Member
Yes. Those two Financial Aid items just appeared for my S as well. Everything else was green checks because all the required docs were submitted and confirmed. (I, being the parent of a JHU applicant) surmise this may (???) be an indication that a financial aid package has been prepared that includes the customary and obligatory maximum student loan that can be had without going to a PLUS loan for more. IMHO, its a sneak peak indicator that admissions will be Accepted. Why else would they bother loading your file with documentation that is due? I COULD BE WRONG, so hedge your expectations accordingly.

BTW, I have 2 other kids in college and both have the loans, so I am very familiar with both of these docs. They are formalities to getting the $5,500 gov't guaranteed loan for your first year. If your finances are very needy, then all or part of your loan may be in the "subsidized" category. That just means you don't accrue interest due whilst you are in college. The "Government" (which is actually all us paying taxpes) will pay the interest for you. So you have a little less to pay back once you graduate. The unsubsidized loans will accrue interest and makes for a higher loan balance when you start to pay it back. You can opt to make payments toward your loans whilst in college, but the assumption is most people will wait until after graduation to begin the loan repayment plan. The "counseling" form is an online certificate of completion of the short online course (and the quiz!). You have to do the counseling course each year you receive the loan. It is done to be sure you understand your financial obligations (like you cant file bankruptcy to have the loan dismissed). The "Master Prom Note" is the very long, legal worded loan document.

@13626Lah So you don't think it has anything to do with being accepted? I don't have those two listed on the website, however I don't have my 1120 forms in yet. Could that possibly be why I don't have those listed? Thanks!

I think the sudden appearance of 2 new required docs after having submitted every doc previously REQUIRED , indicates to me that a financial aid package has been prepared because of admission being a Yes. The package could be great or could be lame.
But in my experience of 2 kids in other schools (including 1 in a full tuition scholarship), EVERYONE is at least given the max of the baseline student loan ($5,500). Unless you get a full ride scholarship (tuition & room & board).

These 2 new loan docs popped onto our JHU application page this morning. So perhaps the financial aid department is gradually updating the EDs while the admissions department has not sent out their updated notices quite yet. Aid and admissions notice usually come together. But imagine this needs to be done for a thousand+ ED applicants. IMHO it will trickle out in drubs and drabs

What is the 1120 form of which you speak? All financial docs for consideration in ED were due to be uploaded via the CSS IDOC online app by 11/15. If you missed uploading required docs by then, I would imagine the app is incomplete and be moved to the RD pile. But that still means all CSS docs need to be uploaded

@13626Lah thank you for the reply! So do you think the fact that they haven't received the 1120 forms from me yet could be a factor as to why those two forms haven't popped up yet? Ignoring the possibility of being rejected...
  • jkaz123jkaz123 Registered User Posts: 36 Junior Member
@13626Lah I believe the 1120 forms show the income for a business. Since one of my parents owns a business they need the 1120 forms as well. They popped up about a week after they had received all the initial docs. When we called, they said they send out the request for 1120 forms after they review the CSS Profile. I sent them in about 4 days ago and today IDOC says they have been sent to JHU.

Yes. If your required docs is incomplete , then I'd expect your ED decision to be delayed because the EDs get the Y/N answer along with the offer of an aid package. But I still don't recall what exactly was the 1120 form of which you refer as still not sent to JHU
  • 13626Lah13626Lah Registered User Posts: 19 New Member
Ok. Our replies are a little delayed to each other.

I see the 1120 explanation now. If they ask for more docs , I'd think that's a good sign. If your academics rendered you a No decision, then why would they bother chasing you for more financial data?

@13626Lah That makes sense. Thank you so much for your help!
