Hi ,
So here's the thing, i'm a rising high school Senior and planning to study medicine . I'm allready wondering about MCAT since I have to take it after my second year of undergraduate studies .
I'm a little bit worried about the reading portion - since i'm not a native English speaker , in other words ; international - , i'm scoring 590 on the reading portion of the SAT , what do you think my score would be on the MCAT , just predict please .
Secondely , I need to know what to do from now until i take the MCAT so that i improve my readin for it ?? I wanna start early so that I really improve .

I would really appreciate any help , thank you very very much .

If you are an international you need to read the threads on international admissions first. It is next to impossible for an international student to get into a US med school. Those few schools that do accept foreign students generally want all four years tuition and fees up front. There's a lot more info on this in the other threads and in the archives.

As to the MCAT, most people take it near the end of year three, not two and the reading/verbal section is generally the toughest for most students. As a non native speaker it will be a challenge for you.

Okay who said i'm gonna study in the US or even Canada ??
I'm applying for Cornell medical college in Qatar . Cornell university opened a medical college in Qatar , and they teach the same curriculum that is tought in the original campus in the US .
Secondely , they have an undergraduate program called pre-med that lasts for only two years , and then after finishing pre-med i take the MCAT and apply to the 4 years Medical program .

So you said reading is the most difficult , hmmmm , so do you suggest I start preparing for the MCAT reading from now ?? What should i do ; knowing that i'm aiming to 11 ?? Are there any specific prep books that will help ??

MCAT reading is much tougher than the SATs.
But dude, if your still a senior in high school...then relax.
Even if you dont know english well, you wont be taking that test till ATLEAST another 4 years. Thats more than enough to become perfectly comfortable with a language.

MCAT english is also not at all grammar focused like the SATs. Its all about reasoning...how well can you derive knowledge from the information given.
Just get into an AP English Lang./Lit. class. Read all the books...and read even tougher books throughout your free time in college.

But seriously though, you may not even want to be pre-med anymore when you realize what it really is. So calm down and just figure things out.

I'm in HS, and I listen to the MCAT Audio Osmosis CDs everyday for at least an hour :).

Before I get publicly gangbanged by BDM et. al., I wish to appeal my case - much of the stuff on the CDs pertains to courses I'm taking at school (or have taken) - e.g. there is a lot of overlap with AP Bio.

Thnx all . ^^ i will try this CD thing , i hope it works out with me .

Okay thank you but I have some comments :
1st YES iam sure i want to follow Pre-Med track
    2nd we don't have AP's in here (( i wish :( ))
3rd i still have only 3 years to take MCAT
4th I assure you I can't relax cuz I have to REALLY improve my reading , cuz it's really really bad . I'm even thinking about enrolling in an MCAT reading prep course in the summer before college (( next summer i mean :p ))
