How hard is it to change majors?

Pumpkin96Pumpkin96 Registered User Posts: 159 Junior Member
I applied for entrance to McGill University as a Nursing major, but the problem is that I was supposed to submit 2 SAT subjects in either math or the sciences for entrance to Nursing. But for my SAT Subject test I only took Biology and Literature. Most of the majors i'm interested in have a prerequisite with SAT II Math, and I didn't take it. The only eligible majors I can partake in is the Arts or Education which only requires ANY 2 SAT Subject tests. I think I do have a relatively good chance of getting in, but into another major (arts/education.) Can't I just accept my offer in, for example, arts, and then switch my major? McGill was on the top of my list, and I fit all the criteria except that darn SAT II Math. What do you guys think?

You don't have to declare a major until your second year (in fact it doesn't quite work that way in McGill, you have to complete a requisite number of courses in a particular subject over U1-U3 years to earn a 'major')

I don't quite understand what you are trying to ask here. Have you already been admitted? In that case do you want to change your faculty or something?

The prerequisite for admission to Nursing for international students attending a US curriculum are: pre-calc, 2 SAT Subject II tests in Math or the Sciences. I already took pre-calc, and I did SAT II in Biology, but I don't have another SAT II in math or sciences to qualify for the prereq for the nursing major. Therefore, I think there is a chance that McGill might allow me entrance into another field that satisfies my prerequisites but that major is probably in the arts or education faculty, which i'm not interested in. So my question is, if they do admit me into another major...say arts, can i just accept the offer and switch majors later?

If you are admitted to the Faculty of Arts you won't be able to take nursing courses. You will have to apply for a Inter-Faculty Transfer later to move to Nursing faculty.

Can I do that in freshman-year? How easy is it to change faculties?

Not sure about how hard it is to change faculties. I suppose it will depend on your grades. Try asking @tomofboston he might have an answer...
