I am wondering if I can get in and If it is possible to receive acceptance to the Honor Program and any Scholarships available

Catholic Private High School
AP classes that I am taking now: English, Macro, Micro, Government
Taking College Physics and will transferable credit
3.92 Cumulative GPA

4.4 WGP so far this senior year

I am by far a better student than standardized test taker, I received an 1800 on SAT (math 630, reading 600, writing 570). On the other chance me thread for this school, the replier said that Miami accepts a later SAT that can be taken next year. Is there a possibility to take the SAT later and attempt a better chance of acceptance to the Honor program? Also when should I apply to the Honor program? when I finish this later SAT or right now?

Football jr year
Track all years
cross country FR year
basketball for fun on the side
100 required service hours for hs graduation
Habitat for Humanity
Church Festival volunteer
Latin club
math club
I can list a few more things

I would think that you are a likely admit. Your 1230 SAT qualifies you for an automatic merit scholarship of $4500/year as an OOS student. You need to apply by 2/1/12 for scholarships. However, you have until 3/1/12 to have transcripts and ACT/SAT scores on file.

The automatic scholarship cutoffs are 1250 (28-29 ACT) for $7,000 per year OOS and 1330 (30+) for $10,000 per year. I would definitely take the SAT again to try for more money if you are serious about Miami. You should also try the ACT - some students do better on one test versus the other.

For honors, the website indicates the average test score is 1330/30. However, the range of accepted student scores is large. Your GPA and activities definitely are in-line - so another reason to test again to boost your chances.

    Good luck.

Thanks! I will attempt to raise my SAT score to get the $7,000 per year OOS scholarship. What would you rank Miami academically? I am very interested in a place where I can receive a great education, not too far from home, with lots of interesting people.

Price is a huge issue for me also. If I managed to get into the Honors program, does the school offer extra scholarships besides the automatic? How easy obtainable are scholarships really?(Hoping for some insider info; I can find much information online yet I cannot always decipher it for my particular case)

I think Miami is a great school. It is especially well known for its business school and has a great reputation in placing its graduates in medical and law schools. Someone else will need to comment on other scholarships. My DS is a sophomore in the B-school on the dean's list 3.81 - no extra money over the automatic scholarship.

I am not sure if I have any real inside info for you (multiple friends and family members are dedicated alumni, one with an especially strong belief in "love and honor" and my son attends) but to be up front with what I do know, the competition for all of their scholarships is intense. As ChicagoBear mentioned, their merit money is generous if you meet the requirements.

It is a class institution from my perspective. You need to go and visit if you have not done so already and prepared to have it become your number one choice as I also think you will be admitted based on your posted information.

    Best of luck!
