Is pre-dental worth it?

As of now, I am a biochemistry and molecular biology major. But I'm unsure about becoming an orthodontist because of debt so I'm considering changing to an economics major.

What are your opinions, is all that debt worth becoming an orthodontist? (Undergrad+dental school+costs to set up a practice)

By the way, I'm an incoming freshman.

IMO its all about the amount schooling. Personally, I wouldn't want to spend 6+ extra years after my undergrads. But that's just me. Another thing to consider is maybe a different dental route..If I'm mistaken, I think the more you specialize in a field the longer the residency is. So maybe if you just go to dental school to be come an actual dentist, the time would be shorter than doing an extra few years to specialize in orthodontics. Also, keep in mind that if you're really passionate about becoming an orthodontist...switching your major to a whole completely different field, economics in this case, wouldn't be the smartest idea. I hope I helped a little...good luck with your decision :)!
