waitlisted?

I was waitlisted and I'm going to remain on the waiting list. Other people that were waitlisted, are you going to stay or go to another school? What school do you think you will be going to? If I don't get in off the waitlist I'll be going to Wheaton College in MA.

I believe it's policy that wait-listed students do not hear back until the college has received replies from all of their admitted students. You should start hearing by May 1st! I hope you've been sending supplementary material. I really wish you both the best of luck! I would really like you to go to MHC, Paris, because I know how passionate you are about it. :)

    Good luck!! :)

actually its gonna be more like mid-may...they're gonna know the amount of empty seats on the 1st may and then they will go through our apps again...and decide....so its more like mid-may....not by may 1st....

    and good luck to us!

I have no idea about the waitlist, I know a few people in my school (about 3 ) got in but are going to other schools. Other than that, I have no clue.

Call the admissions office and ask when they will start admitting people off the wait-list. I'm sure they will tell you. Good luck and hope to see you both next year!!

Let them know you intend on enrolling if you get in! :)

Congratulations, Paris! I was totally rooting for you. Welcome fellow firstie! :D

You were going to go to Wheaton, right? I thought they would've over-enrolled this year, but I guess not. Congratulations again! :D

    thanks everyone!

yes emmared I was going to go to wheaton. I'm going to tell them I'm not coming as soon as I get the MHC info. packet in the mail. I'm also glad i'm now in MHC b/c wheaton accepted me for JANUARY aka spring term. So I would have taken classes at Simmons then transfered to wheaton in Jan. ahh so stressful/complicated.

    MHC made my day!

What a surprise to hear the waitlist is being used this year, as it wasn't last year (05/06) and I don't think it was the prior year either.

Congrats Paris87, may you have lovely experiences making the "wait" worth it!

Not really. Many colleges are admitting fewer students during regular admission and going to the waitlist to get their *yield* number up for the USNews ranking. A college has 100% yield from waitlisted students, which is averaged in the aggregate. ED percentages are much higher at many colleges for the same reason. The ED admit percentages are as high as 35%

Holyoke also dropped the SAT requirement to increase apps, SAT averages and b/c they don't believe the SAT is a good indicator of future success--they're correct. So did Midd. Colgate no longer requests SAT subject tests in order to increase apps and lower acceptance rates. Bates and Bowdoin never required SAT’s. Bowdoin and Bates realized years ago SAT’s were not a good predictor of how well a student will do in college. The students who didn’t submit SATs at Bates (lowest percentiles) had a gpa within .1% of the students with the highest SATs.

    Congrats Paris, you'll love Holyoke.
