7 Year Med Programs

This is for my younger brother who is currently a junior in HS and has plans to go into medicine.

Personally, I'm not too familiar with 7 year med programs. Can anyone tell me the advantages and the disadvantages? How competitive are they to get in? I know at my alma mater we did have a 7 year program but they only accepted about 20-25 students with very high stats. Is this true for all of the schools?

    Very hard to get in.

The most advantage someone has is with their instate state programs reserving seats only for instate.
