My son heard about two weeks ago that he received an audition. Good luck.

I would give it the remainder of this week and then either call or e-mail the school to inquire. MSM has always tended to be a little "behind" other schools in notifications and is notoriously tight with financial aid! Good luck.

I looked on the website and it said that the reason they haven't sent anything yet is they are still reviewing applicants in my voice part. So I guess I still have to wait.

So I found out that I passed the pre-screen ,but didn't find out sooner because of trouble with my email.

Congratulations! The waiting is so painful especially when others have heard. My S had problems with one NY school last year and emails (for some strange reason emails from that school were often cut off at random spots). We changed to a different email address for that school's correspondence.

    Congrats!
I am still waiting to hear back from them... I am a bit nervous because everyone else in my school heard back three weeks ago.

nalawala, I would contact the school because on the website they said that they would notify anyone by Jan. 5. You could have had the same problem as me with my email. I would email the school with your full name, birthdate, and degree you are auditioning for so that they can look up the status of your audition. Oh and make sure to email them with a conflict because those where due today. So go on the website and look at the audition schedule.

thank you so much mezzo, I truly am nervous.
I emailed them earlier, and I'm calling them tomorrow.
I really don't know what happened. Did you send the prescreening materials using artsapp?
I surely sent everything in; I even have a confirmation email and number saying I sent it in.
Hopefully everything works out. :( I wish I sent everything in person.
    But thanks again!

did you check arts apps to make sure it under the sent tab says manhattan. I was having trouble and ended up paying twice because it never actually sent it the first time. I would check the website.

It's a good idea to audition so the faculty can hear you, but I wouldn't go to MSM for voice (again).

Hey, thanks for all the help!
I called this morning, and they said that I have a live audition.
My prescreening recordings were waived by one of the voice teachers, so I guess they forgot to email me or something.
But good luck with your auditions! :)

Hey Breezer, why do you say that? Did you go to MSM for voice?
  • BreezerBreezer Registered User Posts: 10 New Member
I did for a year and transferred.

Long story short: MSM should not be allowed to call a major "Vocal Performance" and offer close to no opportunities for said major to perform. I've heard there are more opportunities these days (couple more opera workshops), but for one of the largest vocal arts departments around, it still doesn't begin to justify the cost.

You could argue that you're getting the opportunity to make yourself known to some important people. But unless you work really hard on your own to a) stand out b) improve your voice and your "package" c) take the initiative to make those connections, you're much, MUCH better off as an undergrad to get a degree at a university or liberal arts college. After all, after you're done with your opera education and it's time to start auditioning, you're going to want to get a day job in NYC. Ever look at entry level job requirements for ANYTHING in NYC? I'd take a look at craigslist...

    Congrats nalawala!

Brezzer, when did you attend there and what is your voice part? Did you only stay for your freshman year?
  • BreezerBreezer Registered User Posts: 10 New Member
Yes, I was there 1999-2000! Sooo long ago lol

MSM has a great faculty, and if you know how to take advantage of that, it's a fantastic school. A lot of singers I've known that have gone through MSM (more so than Juilliard) have pretty great careers. But, it's a LOT of money to spend to network.
