CAP United Auditions - help!

onetteonette 9 replies2 threadsRegistered User New Member
I would like to get feedback from others on CAP United auditions. Are these initial auditions? callbacks? or a mix? If callbacks, are students supposed to submit prescreens to colleges before in order to be seen? How are the auditions run? Do they get in front of all the schools? Or more like Unifieds? Are offers made based on these auditions? From their web site, I honestly could not get a sense of what to expect from these auditions. Would love some insight from parents who have already gone through it! (or anyone who knows about it already!)

I think @MTDad2024 was going to look for more information on these auditions @onette . Maybe he can relay what he has learned. Last year was the first time they ran them.

This is what I understand, but I am no expert:
    1. They plan to have 30 colleges.
    2. Consortium style auditions with approximately 15 schools in the audition room. Yes, each student will be seen by each school.
    3. The schools reserve the right to callback any student they are interested in.
    4. Some schools will consider these auditions first and final, some schools will consider it a live prescreen, and other schools may still request an on campus callback in the future. (There will also be callbacks during CAP)
    5. I noted a few schools have a prescreen deadline for CAP students. OU is one of them. I copied this from their acceptd page: Fall Auditions – Early Deadline October 15th, 2019 To be considered for Moonified auditions in Dallas, Texas and at College Audition Project (CAP) in Atlanta.
    6. I am fairly certain they are limiting enrollment to 100.

Hoping someone who knows more or attended last year is able to provide you with more information and insight. They may be able to correct anything I misunderstood as well.

The enrollment will be capped at anywhere between 80 and 100, with 90 the goal. With adding Elon interest is running higher.

The advice on prescreens participants are getting (at least from one of the auditions coaches) is if a school's deadline for video prescreens is after the CAP audition dates, submit them right before the CAP auditions.

New to this forum and daughter is only a sophomore - so just starting to research and learn about the process......If you go to CAP or Unified auditions, can you also submit a separate prescreen on line to a specific school? Or are you limited to one or the other?

I don’t really have answers to this because I’m kind of in the same boat wondering my self. I recently joined cap for my daughter. Picked the 450 package I thought that included being able to attend those auditions , but with a recent email from them i am wondering do I have to pay an additional fee for my daughter to just attend the auditions???? If anyone can clarify this for me I would really appreciate it as I have not heard back from them on this.

I've been researching CAP and I'm pretty sure the $450 package is for a certain number of coaching sessions and you have to pay additional to attend the auditions. I know they only let you attend the auditions if you have purchased a package. I saw on their facebook page today that they have limited spots left for the November audition weekend. On the bright side, it looks like a fantastic group of programs attending!

Can anyone confirm whether Elon is holding auditions at CAP? I have heard they were a workshop participant at CAP and that MT auditions are still held exclusively on campus. Thanks!

Elon will be having live prescreens at CAP. Still will have to audition on campus if they make it past this gate.

@MTDad2025 and @TXtheatreMom I was told my another mom to dig further about Elon, so I emailed them and asked. The admissions office was very nice and wrote me back that Elon is not doing auditions or prescreens at CAP. They made it very clear that they are there only to do a workshop. They said any and all students/applicants would still have to send in a prescreen and if chosen would have to come to campus for the audition.

Which schools going to CAP are actually holding auditions/prescreens? Elon and Texas State are just doing workshops. Are there other schools on the list who are just doing workshops? It's hard to tell from the website.

@lkcmom and @MTDad2025 seem to have the CAP info so maybe they can provide more details here ....or @MTdreamin you could email and ask. I would imagine they provide that somewhere before you purchase . Makes sense

Sorry, this got long, but I wanted to be thorough.

Every school at CAP, including Elon and TSU, are participating in one of two "panel" live pre-screens where each candidate performs one song and one monologue. Schools then can call back candidates for additional time to see/talk with/inform them.

TSU uses the callback time as a "workshop" to inform those called back more about the school. Its audition type is considered First and Final, but the school does reserve the right to ask a candidate to audition on campus. Since this is consistent with what it does at Moonifieds, I think the workshop reference is misleading in this case.

Elon wants another 2 16 bar songs and a monologue for their callback. I think the confusion with Elon is that it is making it clear that it is not making any decisions solely off of these auditions. It appears only to be gathering more data points on which to make a decision to invite someone on campus...all other requirements (including video prescreens) are still required (this is true of many schools that participate in these types of auditions - they just classify their audition type as live prescreen and defer a decision until they have the whole application, including video pre-screens).

Elon is the only school participating that has asked to classify its audition as "recruitment" so I think it is sensitive to make sure that no decisions will be made (even invites to campus) at the CAP United Auditions. This is, in fact , no different than many schools participating at the auditions.

If you think your child shows up better in person rather than on a computer screen with less than optimal audio, CAP and/or Moonifieds can be a good investment of time and money. They do only get one shot in a live setting of course. You also get feedback on schools that unfortunately feel your child is not the right fit, which allows him/her to focus resources on other schools that do.

    Hope this helps.
