Could some of you who's kids got to do A1 auditions in the past share some tips and advice? How does the actual audition day work? What to be prepared for? What to bring? How to handle the entire process? Anything else you wish you knew before... TYVM!

Great questions, thank you for posting them! This is my daughter's first year auditioning for A1 or attending the conference. Her confirmation email said she was assigned to the Acting Room. We are not sure if that is straight acting, or if they use Acting Room to refer to all types of performers (vs Technical/Creative) - would love some feedback! Thanks so much.

@mtmom911 I could be wrong but on the A1 website it shows audition room A as musical theatre performers and audition room B as actors / monologues. This was what was linked to in the email that my D got today so I’d guess actors are straight acting. She’s registered as a dancer so she dances first and then has 60 seconds to sing. Her email broke down when she reports to run her material with the accompanist so that’s another way to check. If her schedule doesn’t show time with a pianist, it’s straight acting. Hope that helps.

This will be my son's 4th year invited to A1's and he always auditions as a "dancer" so I can only speak to his experience with that. They teach them a dance combo and then they perform for the theatres in attendance. After that they teach them a tap combo which they don't perform for the theatres until the end of the day. After the dance audition they have a chance to work with an accompanist to practice their song and then they perform their song for the theatres. They will post who gets callbacks and callbacks are in the evening or the next day.
