Bragging, sort of....

I know we used to have a bragging thread, but I couldn't find it.

So this is a sort of brag. My son who started out in MT and switched to VP told me on the phone tonight that his was singing the opening solo of The Messiah when he got back after Thanksgiving. I of course thought this is great! Then he said he was singing it with a symphony. I said at school? (this is the sort of part) He said no in the city, you know in a big hall with a big symphony. I of course said oh really! Then I ask what symphony, what hall, what day? He said: I DON'T KNOW, I don't know. Hopefully someone will tell him.

This is the sort of thing that brings out the worst helicopter instincts and makes me want to got down there to find out.

srw, CONGRATULATIONS to your son! That's wonderful news. Please give us more information when you have it. Maybe some CC members who live near where the performance is taking place can go see and hear him.

Srw, how wonderful! And how funny that he doesn't have a single detail....ADD by any chance?

I hope you are able to attend. Be sure to remind son that travel plans need to be made in advance, so the date & venue might be needed!

No matter what or where, congratulations are in order! Singing the opening solo of The Messiah sounds like a wonderful opportunity :).

Congratulations to your son! For a Vocal Performance major, to have a credit with a Symphony will be super!

In my research....my assumption is that he may be singing with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic in their Very Merry Pops concert. Can you attend?

My D has performed with several symphony orchestras and I think it can be quite thrilling to be performing with an entire symphony behind you on the stage in a big concert hall. I think this will be thrilling for your son and quite an achievement for him as a college student majoring in voice.

Thanks all, I still do not know what, where or when. Hopefully I'll get some info before too long. Is it just my son, or most boys who are so mindless about these things? Soozie, I'm sure your D alway knows where and when she's supposed to be!

srw....boys are different than girls. However, some of this is just individual personalities as I have two girls and there are differences between them. I think these BFA kids arey very very busy and have so much on their plate and are in a rush on the phone often and so your son likely didn't have the details for you on that call. But it likely is the place I mentioned as how many symphonies can one city have? They have a holiday concert after Thanksgiving.

By the way, my D who is studying MT, is very responsible and organized when it comes to her work. But she is very disorganized about other things that obviously are less important to her like her belongings and such.

One of my CC friend's daughters is dancing in that same symphony performance in OKC! I assume, anyway, that it's the same!

Hi, I don't know if its the same, would they be doing a piece from The Messiah for a Pops concert? They may have a Civic Symphony as well as the city Philharmonic, we do here as well as some others. As soon as I know I will post. Thanks for all of the kind remarks! I think the main reason I posted was I thought it was funny and strangely amazing that he did not know where, what or when.
