creole08 - I think this will very much depend upon the college you plan to attend. I know for example that NYU has 'frosh welcome/move in week' the last week of August, so a show that runs until Sept 7th would be a "no go" there. Hope that helps :)!

Classes at OCU start August 25. I'm sure this date varies with each school, so I recommend you check the academic calendars on the web sites of the schools which you hope to attend.

I have the feeling that most schools start in the 3rd or 4th week in August. I know last year that I moved my sister into her dorm room (at VCU) I think on August 18th and she had the last move-in day. I would be very careful about making a commitment like that

Some schools start after labor day -- many start at the end of August... and for freshmen many have mandatory summer orientation -- or require freshman to come to campus earlier than returning students for orientation.

I suggest that you look at the '08 - '09 academic calendars for the schools to which you have applied. You should be able to find these through a "current students" link. You may also be able to find orientation time-line information for incoming students on the admissions website.

If any of your schools run on the quarter system, you would start much later in September.

CCM is on quarters so it starts later in Sept.

I've been searching for 30 - 45 minutes for a complete listing of all post secondary school term begin dates. Is there a complete listing compiled somewhere?

    Northwestern starts mid-Sept I think.

Just following up on the quarters and CCM - most schools on quarters will start in mid to late September. CCM is on quarters for the last year this fall. Next year they will start the last week in August as they convert to semesters for the start of 2012.

Honeycut... Are you looking for a compiled listing of ALL colleges start dates for 11-12? I am pretty sure this may not exist. If you look at the academic calendars posted on individual school websites you will be able to find dates school by school. :-)

Coastal Carolina University begins fairly early- Monday, August 22nd. We also held graduation May 5th last year, so we get out a lot earlier as well! Other colleges I happen to know because of friends:

    Texas State University: August 24th
    Millikin University: August 22nd
    Oklahoma City University: August 22nd

Remember these will vary from year to year, but I'm sure each of these schools starts around the same time.

My D is in a similar dilemma for next year and stumbled across the fact that OCU has MT first years (sounds like Harry Potter!) show up even earlier for dance and vocal placements. This year those dates appear to be August 15 & 16 . . . not sure if they make exceptions.

University of Michigan starts the Tuesday or Wednesday following Labor Day. Auditions are held the weekend prior to classes starting, but this does not effect freshman.

creole, are you basing the schools you are considering auditioning for on a college's start date?? Although every student has different criteria, keep in mind that a competitive MT program chooses you from a large pool of auditionees, and you can't know starting out in the process which school you will end up at. My d had to pass at some summer stock work that went into September this year, as her school (Ball State) starts August 18 with welcome week activities for freshmen.

    Texas State University: August 24th
    Millikin University: August 22nd
    Oklahoma City University: August 22nd
Ball State University: August 18 (first day of classes Aug 22)

Actually, I believe the OP was trying to determine if he/she could do a show in September, not pick programs that fit the timeframe. :0)
