Rolling Admissions

Daughter is applying to both USMA and USNA for admission to Class of 2016. She attends high school in NJ, which finishes in latter part of June. Because of time out of school to attend West Point and Navy SLS, followed by NJ Girl's State week after school gets out. she won't be taking her Junior year finals till end of June, and, with teachers gone for summer, likely won't have second semester grades on her transcript until after sschool resumes in the fall.
We're of the impression that, with the rolling admissions policy at both academies, the sooner there is a completed application package to look at, the better. When do the academies begin looking at application packages? If the spring grades aren't available till early September, is that likely to be a setback? Also, recognizing that requirements for nomination applications vary among members of Congress and Senators, is the anticipated delay in receiving grades likely to delay that process? Thanks

I believe the first admissions board meets in August. However, not sending the transcripts in until September should not have really any impact on her application. If she sent them in December, then yes I would say that it might be a problem.

As for nominations, they are not rolling admissions. Therefore, if the deadline is let's say October 3rd. Then, they will not even begin looking at the applications until October 3rd. So no, hers will be looked at around the same time as someone who sent theres in July or August. Granted, I'm in NJ as well and I know for my MOC and our Senators we can send the paperwork in parts. Like send in the formal application, then maybe LOR the next time, and transcripts another time. Just make sure that you are on the ball with them and they receive everything.

Best of luck to your daughter. :) I am also applying to USNA co2016. Hope we both get the nominations we need.
