1500 characters for EACH short answer or for all the of them combined?

I'm confused. When i first read the supplement question: Please respond to each of the following questions using a maximum of 1,500 characters in the space provided.

I thought it meant a max of 1500 for ALL of these short answers COMBINED. so roughly 500 for each question.

However, when entering my answers on the common app, it says 1500 characters for each short answer question...Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks.
