Can anyone state/estimate Stern's c/o 2017 accept rate? Also, SCHOLARSHIPS: common?

Hey guys, I am wondering what NYU Stern Undergraduate School of Business's acceptance rate was this year. If there is any data out or if you can give an accurate estimate, please do.

Also, is it a common thing to get scholarships to a prestigious school like Stern w/o having a hook such as URM? A scholarship for >50% of the cost of attendance?

Thanks so much.

I am positive that there are many others that are curious as to what NYU Stern's acceptance rate was this year. Any information would be highly appreciated.

To be honest no one can give you an accurate number or estimate apart from those in the Admissions office--and I'm almost positive no one will, as it is highly unprofessional.

My best guess would that it's around what Businessweek has reported for the past couple of years, and probably marginally more selective given the trend in elite programs in the US.

Stern is more selective than the other schools at NYU and is comparable to Tisch (Though Stern looks for completely different candidates). We can only speculate, but somewhere less than 20% is probably what it is.

NYU has a reputation for being extremely stingy with their money. This year however, I believe they were quite generous with their money. I received around 16k in financial aid + merit from UMich but I got a whopping ridiculous 45k from Stern. It's absolutely mindblowing and awesome which is why I'm ecstatic to attend Stern this fall. I was afraid of applying to Stern in the fall because I always believed that I would never be able to afford it-- but Stern proved me wrong!

I'd say apply and see how things go, you never know what might happen! (Also I've noticed that people who applied regular decision tended to receive the most money in scholarships/aid)

Wow, that's awesome that Stern is giving out more money this year! My financial aid page still says "award access not available" though, I really hope that means I'm still going to get financial aid because I really need it :/

Dang, this sounds like a system mistake or something. I thought I was crazy lucky to get $34,000 scholarship without any hooks, but you guys are nearing 100% of the cost of attendance 0_0 Could this generosity be because they accepted very little people this year and want a higher yield rate?

Typically, the acceptance rates for Stern, Tisch and CAS are >20% and <30% with Stern being around 23% and CAS being around 26%.

The acceptance rates are going to drop quite a bit this year, since NYU received almost 5000 more apps for the class of 2017.

attended an open house at NYU Stern and the dean stated that their class will be 550 out of 8500 applicants, translating to under a 6.5 percent acceptance rate.

more like 14-15% because they need to accept 1,200 or so to get a freshman class size of 550.

Just remember that everyone isn't quite as lucky as the above posters - a friend got into Stern and received the same measly 1.4k scholarship that I did! (Though I'm in LSP.) Good luck to you and congrats to the other accepted kids : )

This is settled now that we know the number of applicants from Weekend on the Square. With about 8,500 applications and an estimated 30% yield rate, approx. 1,833 students were accepted putting the 2013 Stern undergraduate admission rate at about 22%.

So Sterns yield is lower than NYU as a whole?

Haletonford's yield rate is wrong. The yield rate is more like 40-45% and it is one of highest yield rate compared to other nyu undergrad schools.

Okay, recalculated with a 40% yield rate, Stern accepts 1375 out of 8500 applicants for an approximate 16 % acceptance rate.

New York University: Stern School of Business - Undergraduate Profile - Businessweek

According to Bloomberg, Stern's acceptance rate last year was 19% with a yield rate of 37%. Considering the fact that the general trend of acceptance rates has been downward, including for NYU as a whole, this year's acceptance rate was probably somewhere around 16-18%.

As for scholarships, I got a half-ride (bit more than 32k overall given, 22k in scholarships and 10k in grant) and I'm as unhooked as you can get. Asian upper-middle class male from LA/OC area.

Wow this thread is making me so depressed about my financial aid...

I only managed to get $1k from Stern (another one of my friends did too) and I already thought I was lucky since NYU said that almost no one even gets any scholarship money at all...

EDIT: actually, does anyone know if Stern will give you more scholarship money after each year if you do really well in school? I feel like I remember hearing it mentioned somewhere but I could just be completely mistaken...
