Class of 2018 Waitlist

ramenaddictramenaddict Registered User Posts: 19 New Member
I got waitlisted from CAS a couple days ago and I've committed to my second choice in the meantime, but I'm still praying to get off the wait list! I sent in the response form yesterday and I was thinking about sending an email to my regional admissions counselor stating my interest- I heard that's worked in people's favor in the past. At this point is there anything I can do other than pray and hope for the best?? Anyone else in the same boat?

I was wait listed from CAS as well. I read the email and It did say not to mail any additional material, recommendations or letters. Does anyone here know whether an email to my regional admissions counselor would still fall under that. I mean they were pretty explicit about their request not to send them additional stuff so I just want to make sure I'm not annoying them either.

From what I heard about previous years' waitlists, emailing them isn't a problem and some people actually say it helped them (although I don't know how true that is). I think what they really don't want is people sending them extra material when they're already busy enough, but I think a simple email telling them you're interested is fine. If someone could back me up on that, though, that'd be great!

Does anyone know what how many or what % of those wait listed for film last year made it in? I'm guessing it's pretty low.

I got waitlisted as well. I sent my response on Friday but i have not received a confirmation letter. Have you?

Nope, no confirmation letter. Are we supposed to get one?

I have not received a confirmation.

I believe they are sending out a human confirmation and given that we sent them in Friday they haven't gotten to it. If I don't get anything tomorrow I'll give them a ring

Does anyone know how many people are on the waitlist and how many they actually accept?
ohh and I still haven't received my confirmation either

I called the admissions office to ask why I hadn't received a confirmation yet, and they said it takes a few days. If you ask them they can check whether they received your response, they did for me.

I'm sooo nervous you guys! Omg do any of you know when they'll start replying to prospective students?
NYU is my dream school. It would literally break my heart if I didn't get in.
Do any of you know how many people got off the wait-list last year?
  • hellgiverhellgiver Registered User Posts: 17 New Member
@Maryyyam‌ About 500 students were admitted off the waitlist last year. Btw which school are you waitlisted at?
  • MaryyyamMaryyyam Registered User Posts: 35 Junior Member
@hellgiver‌ woahh that's quite a lot actually. sorry i'm asking a lot of questions but do you know how many people were on the wait list to begin with last year?
I got wait listed from Stern but I don't think I'll get in :// I did ask to be considered for several other schools since I just want to attend NYU (don't know what i want to study yet).

How about you? Where did you get wait listed from?
  • hellgiverhellgiver Registered User Posts: 17 New Member
@Maryyyam Well if I remember correctly, about 13% of the applicant pool was offered spots on the wait list whereas this time around it's less than 9%.
I'm on the wait list for NYU Stern (only) and Carnegie Mellon. The reason I didn't choose any other schools in the RSVP form is cuz Stern is the only place that really attracts me to NYU. Tell me if you hear anything from them.
    Good luck :)

@hellgiver‌ how are you getting all this information? hahah i could have sworn to you I searched the entire web desperate to find out. But omg the 9% applicant pool makes it somewhat easier for all of us to get off the wait list (hopefully!)
Oh wow Carnegie Mellon is a great school. And so is NYU so haha I hope you get into any or both and are able to make a decision.
I will definitely let you know. Let me know when you hear back as well!

@Maryyyam‌ haha I can assure you that the info is from very reliable sources. Seems to me that you really really wanna get in, well much more than me anyways so i hope you get in. Yeah I'll definitely let you know if I hear anything from them.
