Florence GSP/Courses/Prestige

I'd appreciate if some current NYU students could answer the following questions:

1. Do GSP students have to go to Florence for the first year? It seems a bit odd that NYU would ship people off to Italy before becoming acquainted with New York.

2. The courses listed on the site look very generic and boring (i.e. "Social Foundations," "Cultural Foundations," "Prose Composition"). I'm assuming this is just the core curriculum. Where can I find a list of more specific courses? I am a history major.

3. I get the impression that I'm regarded as a second-class student by the office of admissions. I feel like I'd be attending NYU Jr. College, only to graduate to the main event two years later. I've heard GSP students are called "Generally Stupid People." Is there any validity in this way of thinking? Why should I even bother with GSP?

:( I wish you could have gone to a GSP info session. .......you know, why don't you call NYU admissions and talk to someon? ask them to tell you about the program and then ask questions! they'll be really nice and open about it--GSP is a REALLY good program. I like it a lot....
