Hi all! I am interested in the Tisch School, particularly Film and Television. I was wondering what kind of things you sent in(your movie or whatever). I am not trying to steal anyone's ideas but I am really at a loss as for what to send in. Like I'm wondering what kind of movies you made and how long they were. PLease help!

I will be in the Film/TV program this year as a freshman. I sent in a 6 minute digital video I made in the summer of 2005. Attached at the beginning of my DVD was a short 3D animation clip I did my Jr. year of high school in a computer animation class. You don't have to send a film as they also take still photos or a writing sample or a number of other things. The key with the video is to tell a story. It does not have to be shot expertly, although if you demonstrated an understanding of the basics of framing and editing, it would not hurt. You don't have to be an accomplished screen writer either, my short did not have any dialogue. Just go out there and tell a story with a beginning middle and end that keeps the reviewers attention. I hope that helps some, good luck.

But like I have no idea what to film about. Were your projects originally made for school or did you make them just for Tisch. I am really confused about this whole thing! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I'm gonna be a freshman in the program as well. My short was a 5 minute public service announcement regarding suicide that I made.... I made it for the purpose of an extra credit/community service project for health class, but I regarded it as my best and most serious work so I sent it in (plus everything else I've done has been in mangled high school french... lol)
If you're applying this year, and so confused at this point, it may be better for you not to try to panic and put together a video and send in a different sort of portfolio. What makes you think you'd be good at film&tv? Do you enjoy screenwriting, do you like to take pictures, etc.?
Calm down a bit, try your best, and have a backup plan :) thats the best way to go about it!

don't worry about making something FOR nyu's application... just send something... anything really that you're extremely proud of. I spent this time making a 10-min movie and the computer crashed so it wasn't finished for the application period. honestly though... i think if I sent it in I wouldn't have gotten in. Instead I sent my animation reel from 9th grade. 2d pieces... ranging from 15 secs ... to 2 mins. It was something I did not for colleges but for myself and therefore was my best work... so I sent that in.
