Transfer students: Essays?

Question:

For the NYU essay prompts that say "Limit your response to 7 lines, or approximately 500 characters," how exactly should this be interpreted? For example, one of my answers is:

Font - 12pt
Characters (with no spaces) - 488
Characters (with spaces) - 594
Lines - 7

Is this acceptable?
