Hey my name is Evan and I'm planning on applying for EA at State for their College of Engineering. My weighted GPA is currently a 4.434 (will go up by the end of the semester and next year) and my unweighted GPA is a 3.73, my current ACT score is horrible with a 21 (planning on retaking it), I have been involved in 8 different clubs including Tri-M honors society for music, NHS whom I am Historian of for the 2013-2014 school year and Beta Club. I am President of Key Club for next year as well. I have been involved In marching band for the past 3 years where I have been mellophone section leader as well as mellophone section leader for next year. I have been involved in concert band for 6 years and been a member of the spring musical for two years and plan on auditioning again next year. I have taken AP Bio and AP US as well as being signed up for 3-4 AP's next year (depending on if one makes). I am in the top 10% of my class and 15 out of about 230. Can you please tell me if I'm competitive enough to get in? I know my GPA and ACT scores aren't great but I hope to improve them.

WOW... I thought my kid was half crazed with his class load and sports. I would venture to say that if you run that road get your ACT numbers up to the 29 / 30 range and you will be in good shape.

Best of luck, NC is the No.2 school on my DS list. He goes between two schools for his 1 & 2 choice, the other is South Carolina State University.

3units - The NCSU engineering SAT (CR+M) 50% range is 1220-1420 (according to their website). His 1210 is just short of that middle 50%). His ACT of 30 is much better. He may want to only submit his ACT. With his ACT, high GPA, and the rest of his impressive resume, I think he has an excellent chance. NCSU treats OOS applications the same as IS. NC has an 18% OOS cap, but NCSU doesn't usually reach it.

Evan - You need to get your ACT higher or try the SAT. Everything else looks great!

    BUandBC82,

Thank you very much I'll let him know. ACT it is... He is re-testing for both in the Fall so maybe he will achieve some score security.

    Cheers!!

For OP, NCSU is a safety.

Evanh18, you need to get your ACT up to 25.

3units....Did you mean to say your S's first choice school is the University of South Carolina? I don't believe there is a NROTC unit at South Carolina State University.

Thank you PackMom... Got a typo there I did, thank you for the correction. I meant to put the University of South Carolina.

    University of South Carolina NROTC

We toured USC when D1 was applying for NROTC. We were impressed and would have been happy for S1 to go there. USC became his second choice since he was already set on NCSU as his first choice.
