S20 applied for Economics. Stats aren't the best, but hopefully ECs and legacy will push him just far enough.

    Good luck!

DD20 is an OOS applicant for first year life sciences. She knows the path is all uphill due to the limit on OOS students but is hoping to get in. NMSF, top 10% of her class, NC GPA in range, ACT above their mid 50, etc.

    Good luck to all!

We toured 2 summers ago. The OOS cap is 18%. The AO said they never hit that. Might have changed in the last year or two but doubtful. I've always liked the campus from the first time I visited about 25 years ago. My sons really liked the school. I was sure my oldest would apply but no joy.

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear from the school? Do they send out acceptances in January?

The WolfPaw portal says decisions are due January 30. That's a long time to wait. I think I'm checking for updates more often than my son.

I submitted my application last week! I am already in college, but because I'm applying to the CoD, they said I would be considered a freshman applicant in the eyes of the College of Design. As a student of the university, it's based on credits but as a Design major, I'm starting from square one.

I have heard from a few people who have previously applied that they always set the decision notification for January 30th but most people get it far before then, some as early as mid-December. Hopefully thats the case this year as well

Mid December seems to be when Park Scholarships applicants find out if they made semi finalist. I don’t think general EA acceptances come out then.

Mom of a current first year freshman/sophomore at State - while they give a Jan 30 notification date, they usually announce a week before that. Last year, it was exactly a week before - and it was a looooong wait from Oct 15 to Jan 22 for that info (he had already been admitted to the other schools he had applied, but State was his first choice)

Daughter applied. OOS with good GPA but low SAT and ACT. Brother just graduated last year from State so hoping that helps. Love the school and it's her first choice. It will be a long wait until Jan notifications.

Does anyone know if it’s easier to get in with certain majors? OOS and have decent SAT (Mid 50%) and GPA but not applying to engineering or business

There are majors that are less competitive. I will say we were warned during an info session not to apply to a less popular major if you don't intend to stay with it. Some students try to apply to less popular majors to increase their chances of acceptance and intend to switch once admitted. They said it is a common ploy people attempt but they see through it. They went on to say they really want to see in your application that you have been focusing on your major and if not to apply to Exploratory Studies.

@MBNC1755 I heard that too on our tours.

My son applied to Exploratory Studies, but that has gotten very competivite.

I'll post the stats I posted a few days ago in another NCSU thread:

NCSU admits a small percentage of OOS applicants. The average SAT for all OOS accepted applicants in 2018-19 was 1351. The average GPA for all accepted OOS students last year was 4.31.

You can assume that for STEM majors, those averages will be higher.

It's not impossible, but it's not an easy admit for OOS applicants.

We did a summer tour in 2018. We're OOS. Several admin reps said that NC State was capped at 18% OOS students but that they never hit that percentage. Might have changed. That said, I would assume that OOS applicants are probably higher stats. Especially STEM kids.

All the UNC have that cap as well. ( I think) Its state mandated . UNCW said same thing that it was 18% but they only had 16% last year.

Does anyone’s WolfPaw account show any type of status? Most schools say things like submitted, or under consideration, but I don’t see anything like that on State's site. It doesn’t show anything missing, and several items confirmed received, but it make me nervous.

I had my D20 check and hers just had a list of green checkmarks. Nothing that says 'submitted'. She also has a separate portal for Park Scholar and that does say 'submitted' and has a link to view her application.
