National Hispanic Scholar -NEU

DHF123DHF123 0 replies1 threads New Member
Hello - we plan to apply ED to NEU but wanted to learn whether as a National Hispanic scholar recipient NEU would grant a scholarship automatically if accepted? And if so, how much would that be (or what has been your experience if you were in a similar situation). Many thanks for any insight!

If you look at last year’s admissions posts and NMSF/NHS, you will see that it does not appear to be automatic as to what amount one will get. There appeared to be more of a range, even when one parent talked to FA bc FA had told her it would be automatic during the process. Their webpage this year is much more vague about amounts. Years ago, NMSF were given full tuition, then $30k, and now they just say competitive merit aid. See the national scholarships page on the link below.

I imagine with all the focus on the inequities of standardized testing, NEU like other schools might be making a move away from automatic scholarships for these programs and are providing more need based aid.

    “Northeastern National Scholarships
Students who are admitted to Northeastern and are recognized as National Merit Finalists* or National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars** will receive a competitive merit-based award and may also be eligible for financial aid.

Northeastern National Scholarships replace any Honors, Dean’s, Connections, Sophomore Achievement, or International Scholars awards and may result in a change to previously awarded Northeastern University Grant funds.

*To be eligible for these Northeastern scholarships, National Merit Finalists must be must be U.S. citizens or documented permanent residents, admitted to Northeastern and should designate Northeastern University as your college choice to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) by the priority deadline of April 2, 2020. We will award our first group of scholarships in early March to students who were admitted Early Action or Early Decision.

**National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholarship recipients must submit NHRP Scholar documentation to Admissions by email ([email protected]) or by uploading the documentation through the Application Status Check by the priority deadline of April 2, 2020.
