How do you accept your financial aid package? I keep clicking "accept all" but it's not doing anything.

@PPofEngrDr Son called first thing this morning and got voicemail. I emailed and was told the awards will be posted by the end of the week and that awards would also be mailed home.

@PPofEngrDr I get it. I just wish everyone had access to their awards at the same time, in the interest of fairness.

@MidwestTwinMom to be fair, it really doesn't change the outcome as it goes clearly by numbers unless there is something missed or not provided by an applicant, certainly adds to the misery. Are you still having issues with award?

@dancegirl28 Northwestern is D1 for sports so they're pretty much the same as any "big sports school" you could find. From what I've heard most people there are very social and Chicago is right there so there's tons of access to concerts, restaurants, etc. in the city.

    That's a I know sorry!

I am baffled by the acceptance criteria. My kid has a perfect GPA with 34 ACT, 11 APs (so far all 5s) so far logged 900 medical hours as a CNA (going premed); captain of DI sports team; NHS and other school leadership groups; “best essay English. teacher has ever read” - app in by Nov. 1st YET denied?

@hope2BBadger The number part of the app is just a hint as to the academic performance of the child there.

The rest's (EC's and awards speaking for talent, perseverance, passion and so on, and essays speaking for personality, thoughts) worth is determined by the adcom. By worth here I refer to its added value in context of the vision of the formed class they have in mind. THe vision is unkonwn, but some schools publish an article hinting/describing it after the RD dec. date (maybe a specific article, but mostly the article for the press saying 'how competitive this years pool was, how many applied and so on). Hence, the concept of a fit arises. Many kids with awesome grades dont get in, many with not-so-good ones get in. Its highly perspective based, highly "subjective" in the sense that you should be a good match as a mixture of all ur components of the app to the overall image they have in mind when forming a batch.

Hope this helps, but this is what I used to laugh at, gathered throughout, and now fully believe.

Thanks.NW not the top choice anyway, so all is well. Just confusing because this student is so well rounded I don’t see how they can tell if “there’s a fit”. (Obviously a biased mom but I too work as a college instructor, so the process frustrates me when you see someone who would offer so much get overlooked.

@hope2BBadger I get what you mean.

I get the frustration. Most apps are at the end of it, but learn to get over it and make the most of the opps at hand too.

THe 'fit determining part' is mainly due to an app fitting in a changing/same set of criteria that is decided by the adcom each year. If an app abides by the criteria (gets maximum/ a lot of similarity) made by an incoming-class-vision in mind, its a yes... if its just abiding... a WL and so on...

@hope2BBadger: Maybe your username had something to do with the decision ?

@dancegirl28: Great timing. Northwestern's football team should do well over the next three years due in large part to the redshirted QB.
