Applying to OSU - "Optional" Letters of Recommendation - Submit or Not?

Future Buckeye looking to apply to OSU in the Fall and see that Letters of Recommendation are "Optional" - for those of you who got accepted, did you include LOR's or not and are they a critical factor in getting accepted?
