What in earth were they thinking when the WH decided to do a photo op of AF 1 with 2 F-16 escorts 1000 ft over NYC. Has all common sense left DC?

What in earth were they thinking

Since when was thinking a requirement? They obviously were not thinking at all.

Obama needs to hold a meeting with all of the WH staff instead of another primetime speak to the Americans. He should tell his staff enough of embarrassing me. In 3 months I have given DVDs to a Prime Minister that is blind and can't play them on their DVD system, a Re-set button that actually said over charge, teleprompters not working properly and now we buzz NYC!

He needs Rahm to start double checking on everything!

I bet the Squadron Commander for Air Force One will be the person to lose their job.

We regularly get such flyovers of Seattle with various Boeing planes. My reaction to this overflight was: "oh cool" but then I didn't see the planes on 9/11. When I saw six Japanese zeroes overfly Honolulu (during the making of the movie Pearl Harbor)--that I reacted to--because I didn't know what was going on.

Someone should have splashed it all over the news the day before it happened.

I was listening to the news and they said the WH didn't want to release it for fear that it could be attacked, what I find comical is the media and the WH always announce where our President would be, so wouldn't that also endanger AF1. Isn't AF1 equipped with every defense object that the military has?

I thought this was a really stupid thing to do. What's the point of taking a staged picture of Air Force One flying by the Statue of Liberty, anyway? Since it's merely symbolic, a Photoshopped version would be just as good, way cheaper, and wouldn't have created these problems.

I guess they haven't seen a green screen or thought about talking to George Lucas!

I'm incensed by this. The panic in the streets was mind-boggling. Of course, our idiot mayor knew and didn't choose to even inform the police.

You believe Bloomberg knew and allowed it? Why would he do that?
  • zoosermomzoosermom Registered User Posts: 26,118 Senior Member
Bloomberg did know. He just has no consideration for actual human beings. That's his whole way of being.

The AP has reported that Bloomberg did not know about it in advance. Has he said that he knew?

I saw the press conference - Bloomberg did NOT know. The NYPD was informed but told to keep it to themselves.

Taking the fall and responsible is Louis Caldera, Director of the White House Military Office. No idea what he was thinking...

You're right. Bloomberg didn't know. He should have. I apologize.

But I still despise that man.

Next time Obama goes to Japan, he'll probably want to get a close look at Hiroshima from a vintage B-29.
