Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I caught Wednesday night's "The Voice" and love the new format. The judges, consisting of Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton are ALSO in competition with one another, as they try to convince each singer they want on their team to select them as their mentor. If two or more judges want a particular contestant, they must convince that person to join his or her team. So far, there seems to be a fairly intense rivalry between Adam and Christina during the "blind" audition rounds.

I'm there . Populating this thread with the comment I made on your AI thread.

I am loving this show. Watched the first episode and think the talent is outstanding. The coaches non-picks would have been my non-picks.

Actually, I'm a little confused - my DVR taped the show on the next night, but I guess it was a repeat? Anyway, glad it did because I didn't see the coaches do "Crazy" the first time. loved loved loved it. I wonder if they'll perform every show?

I also like that this show brings us in when they've already weeded the pack - none of the silly stuff.

Patrick - the country Voice. Stupendous. And I don't like country.
Vicky (sp?) Martinez - the young rocker. Love her.

There were others that I liked a lot, but can't remember them. I thought everyone was good, though.

there's just one thing I'm confused about......and maybe I'm just not paying attention....how was it "fixed" that they each ended up with three on their team at the end of the night if the contestants were given the choice?

My husband (the cynic) thinks it's fixed somehow; I just think it was edited to work....

    I always liked...oh, wait a minute, sorry.

I thought you were talking about the Village Voice.

rodney - I always think these reality shows are fixed to varying extents, sometimes just in the editing.

Some of them (and I'm not saying this one, but shows like Project Runway and Top Chef) scroll fine print on the screen quickly at the end with words to the effect that "contestants who continue on the show are decided in consultation among the judges and the show's producers". I assume in those shows it's so that they can keep in some of the drama queens that add spice to the show for some viewers.

I'm in on this one. Liked the judges interaction. I missed the first 30 minutes both nights!! Hate that - no DVR :(. Will keep watching to see how it goes.

I was flipping channels and came upon "the Voice". From the promo commercials, I expected it to be kinda hokie. To my surprise I got hooked, watched every minute and will watch next week. My friend at work said the same thing.

My question is..what will happen once each producer gets their eight team members? I'm assuming some sort of competition but wondering how it will work. I missed the first few minutes of the show. Did they explain the format?

The commercials are earworms to me and I don't care for vocal acrobatic singing style.

Will the show be live at some point, or is it already totally taped and done? Patrick is (was?) at Vanderbilt..wondering if he had to take a LOA to do the show.

I have never missed an episode of American Idol, but I've never even heard of the Voice. What night, time and network does it come on? This time of year, I'm usually watching baseball in the evenings, and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any promos for the Voice on Fox Sports. :)

PackMom, I took your advice and went over to check out The Voice. So far so good! I like that the coaches don't see the contestants before they vote to get them on their team and just hear their voices.

Missy, Patrick ("the Hat") was at Vandy, and had to withdraw from classes for the semester for the show. He's been back to school for a visit, and couldn't reveal a word of what had happened, except Cristina A's "Now, take off your pants" comment.

If you have Comcast On Demand, you can find the Voice. I watched it last night, and now am hooked. I think that the judges will each end up with eight honestly, because not everyone is chosen, and once the judge makes their team, they will have to stop trying to get contestants. I feel bad for the last few candidates though. I am wondering if there will be some sort of judges choice or alternate. Seems awful if there are contestants left that we won't hear if they all get their own teams.

Musicmom, I'm watching from NBC's main site. I typed in "The Voice" to search it and there it was.

I absolutely love it! Such as ingenious format. I really appreciate the fact that judges don't know what the competitors look like before they commit to work with them, and I love that there doesn't seem to be an age limit. The bald rocker, for instance, is 46. I can't wait to see more!

I am so over American Idol.

Somehow each team of 8 gets down to 4 (not sure who is doing the choosing--the mentors?). There will be 4 finalists (one from each team?)--at which point America votes for the winner.
