Really wish they hadn't closed that "stupidest reason" thread.
My daughter said she was actually relieved that she was waitlisted at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacon really creeped her out but more importantly she didn't like the font of the logo.

@dragonmom3 - The font issue is the perfect reason to start a new thread! :))

Thanks for the advice about wearing shorts. We toured Cal Poly and it was unusually warm. Most of the other students were dressed similarly.

Thanks @skieurope. We could start a new thread but then no one would know about the doors that are too heavy or the extra wide sidewalks at RPI

Our son is a rising junior so we are visiting a variety of relatively local schools to get his reactions to schools with different characteristics. We live in NH. Have seen Northeastern, UCONN, and Wesleyan so far. Also planning to visit UVM and Holy Cross.

We have learned that UCONN is too big and he is not too keen on being in a city. He also loved the open curriculum at Wesleyan. Also, Wesleyan is deemed not too small for his tastes.

@nehiker Sounds like you need a trip to Maine to visit Bowdoin, Bates, and Colby and a visit to Middlebury while visiting UVM. :)

@doschicos perhaps next year once we narrow down his focus. Both his parents are Bates alums, so Bowdoin and Colby would be tough to swallow :)

We just completed a midwest sweep: Grinnell on Jul 2, St Olaf + Carleton on Jul 3 (Wed Jul 4 with relatives in MN), Macalester on Jul 5, and UW-Madison on Jul 6. We were supposed to also see MCAD on Jul 5 in Minneapolis but D16 begged off. Two-a-days are hard -- leaves very little time to mentally process each visit. The long car trips are great bonding time! I don't mind the summer visits. Heads up for the "lunch with a student" item on the schedule: At both Grinnell and Macalester, that turned out the be a group of tour guides taking a much larger group of prospies and parents to a dining hall (or, in Grinnell's case, a library) for lunch. Not the feared 1-on-1.

Heading to Coastal Carolina. Suggestions on decent hotels nearby??

Itisatruth we did almost exactly the same midwest sweep at spring break a year ago (also stopped at Universities of Minneapolis and Iowa, since we were out there anyway). So what did you think? Any favorites? My D loved UMinn, UIowa, and the music opportunities got her to apply to St. Olaf as well. Her friend (companion on the trip) ended up applying to Grinnell and Carleton. Mac got no love from any of us and we must have had a really bad tour at UW.

After all our midwest touring and applying, etc., at the last minute we flew out to USanDiego for accepted students' day and this Chicago girl picked San Diego! Can't blame her, but so far away!

@ADawley Coastal is only about 10 miles from Myrtle Beach. We visited 8 years ago and stayed at the beach.

@ADawley we know someone there and he loves it. Curious to hear what you think. It was on D18's list.

@Itisatruth how did she like Carleton? S19 is going to drive through it tomorrow. I really enjoyed the bonding time on our drives too! He is done with tours though after that. Lol

@bobo44 wow, congrats to her! Are you prepared for her to go so far? D18 is going to the other coast. I'm going to miss her but very excited for her.
