It’s probably not mistaken that much in spoken and written English, but in Chinese and Korean and probably other languages, everyone refers to UC-Berkeley as Berkeley, which is of course the same pronunciation as Berkelee.

You mean Berklee (College of Music)?

And not to be confused with the for-profit Berkeley College.

What about Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis? That name always seemed confusing.

Or U of Chicago and U of Illinois at Chicago.

When I told one of my Maine relatives that I was planning to attend Stanford, she thought I meant Stamford , which is within the UConn system -- https://stamford.uconn.edu/ .

I've always suspected the Southern California University of Health Sciences hopes that people associate it with the University of Southern California.

It's always fun to look at the names of unaccredited schools and diploma mills. I remember about 20 years ago there were diploma mills called Southern California University and University of Berkley. (Yes, that's how they spelled it.)

I'm sure plenty of people assume California University of Pennsylvania is in California.

Not to far from my home is Notre Dame de Namur University. It used to be the "College of Notre Dame," but they changed the name a few years back.

When I was going to college in Alaska, we used to play Whitman College and Whitworth College in athletics. They're both in Washington State, and I still get them mixed up.

There are St. Mary's Universities in San Antonio and Moraga, California. And then there's Mt. St. Mary's in Maryland.

    Too many Loyolas.

Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry vs. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern.

    There are multiple Concordia Colleges.

There is also a Mount Saint Mary's in California, and St. Mary's in Indiana, Minnesota, and Maryland (the Maryland one is a non-Catholic public school).

The 3rd string quarterback for the Steelers (who will start this weekend because Roethlisberger is out and #2 got that big concussion hit) went to Samford, not Stanford.

Our football team(Samford) is really struggling this year after losing Devlin Hodges as quarterback.

Trenton State College got into a fight with Princeton University some years ago when it decided to change its name to the College of New Jersey -- the original name of Princeton. (It was nicknamed Princeton the way people referred to Yale as New Haven, but for Princeton it stuck and was made official.) Princeton lost, as barely anyone knew about the old name anymore and the university wasn't using it. No real chance for confusion.

Some people might not recognize some universities by their full names, like Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

I used to think Regis University in Denver was an uber-religious, evangelical Christian school, but that's because I was mixing it up with Regent University in Virginia.
