Total change of subject, and I don't mean to hijack the thread, but did you hear about the awful fire at Miamo of Ohio this weekend? It was in one of the little houses on the edge of campus that are rented by students who want to live off campus. Three students were killed-- 2 girls and a guy, I believe. How tragic.

ivies usually means only the ivies (brown, dartmouth, columbia, upenn, yale, princeton, harvard, cornell)

Technically speaking "The Ivies" are the eight members of the Ivy League, an athletic conference.
In alphabetical order: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn (UPenn), Princeton, Yale.

and is USC for So. California or South Carolina??
  • celebrian25celebrian25 Registered User Posts: 15,373 Senior Member
on here USC always means university of southern california, and I don't think U. South Carolina is mentioned enough in real life or on cc for it to be a big issue.

On the OSU issue, I've called it OSU and had many people think I was talking about either Oregon or Ohklahoma, so I now just call it ohio state

No faux pas ohio, it's a regional thang. Kind of like UT being Tennessee or Texas.

    BWRK - Bright, well-rounded kid

Oh, thanks for that one....I was wondering what the heck that meant.

BTW, I've seen the initials AI and tried to do a search to find out how to come up with a score. I have a vague idea what it means, but it wouldn't come up on my searches

    CCC: California Community College

Particularly relevant because the UCs have an agreement with certain CCCs that offer guaranteed admission at junior year.

GTO: Guaranteed Transfer Option (the option offered to some freshman UC applicants to go to a CCC and transfer into the UC that offered this)

TAP: Transfer Agreement ? (the form/agreement you sign that allows you automatic acceptance from CCC to UC provided you finish a certain set of classes with a certain level of achievement)

IGETC: Intersegmental General Education Transfer Credit (The set of courses and agreements that the UCs and select CCCs have which means that if you complete the prescribed set of courses, you will have satisfied that UC's general education requirements.)
