Do all professors allow the use of laptops in class?

This may seem like a silly question but I'm not too familiar with how things work in college. Do professors usually allow the use of laptops in their class for the purpose of taking notes? Is this a common practice among students? I type a lot faster than I write so I was considering buying a laptop to bring to class with me.

Check with CWRyan, but at FTCAP, the person running the parent portion said most professors don't allow them. They are distracting with the typing & the screen being open.

I've been to a few classes that the professor was not allowed using both laptop and cellphone.Sounds crazy right? And if you text msg or your phone rings, the professor would criticize you in front of the whole class.

Well, you and your classmates are paying thousands of dollars in tuition to be taught, not to use facebook/text during class.

Well we also arent paying for teachers to ramble about something off topic.....happens nonetheless ;).

Either way point of this is.....you should be fine. Especially if the class is bigger. Though be warned that a laptop can start to distract you :P.

If you want something more than paper and pen, you could get a touch screen laptop like the hp touchsmart, or a digital pad that saves a digital copy of everything you write.

I saw someone use one of those touchscreen laptops. Pretty cool stuff. It would save a lot of paper using that in class than printing out everything.
