Postgrad Schools?

Hey all, I'm a sophomore at a southern boarding school and my school just announced that they're starting a PG program next year. Just curious-- from people who go to a school that already has that-- what is going to be different next year?

Probably not very much will change. Is there something specific you’re worried about?

Many schools that don’t have PG have many repeats so it’s likely you’ve already been going to school with a wide range of ages.

The biggest change is that a PG may take a varsity spot from a returning student.

Thanks! I'm definitely not concerned about sports or anything like that-- I'm more concerned about leadership opportunities and the typical "rulers of the school" vibe seniors have that I was looking forward to in two years. Also in the dorms, the seniors have always been the wise, all-knowing mentors for everyone else; is that gonna change with PG students joining?

^Realistically, probably not. The senior "wisdom " comes from time on campus, which PGs do not have.

Remember that most PGs come because they need one more year of high school, and usually for a specific reason (like getting bigger for their sport of beefing up on their academics because a team wants that from them.) They are going to be more focused on making sure they achieve that thing than in working their way into the community in a "usurping" role. It's not to say that they can't or won't have those opportunities, but it's unlikely it's their objective.

It's not like there are going to be 10-20 PG students. There might be 1-2 so unlikely to rule the school. Honestly I don't think there's anything to worry about.
