TAMS chances?

Capricorn112Capricorn112 1 replies2 threads New Member
Hello, I am a freshman in FriscoISD and I was wondering if i'm on a good path for tams.
In 8th grade I took 3 high school classes, the only ones available:
Pre-ap Algebra 1: 97
On-level Spanish 1:92
On-level Health-99

These are my grades freshman year currently after my 1st semester(out of 2):
Pre-Ap Geometry:98
Pre-Ap Algebra 2:100
Pre-Ap Biology:96
Pre-Ap Spanish 2:97
Ap Human Geography:95
Medical Terminology:97
Orchestra:98
Gt Humanities (English 1 mixed with Ap world history): 91

Class Rank and GPA haven't been released yet
I am expecting around the same grades second semester, with higher ones in Gt Humanities and Ap Human.

I have taken a few practice SAT's and the highest score I got was a 1380, 670 verbal and 710 math.

Extracurriculars:
Math and Science Team(8th)
NJHS(8th)
Volunteering at Frisco Public Library(ongoing)
HOSA(9th)
BPA(9th)
Science Oympiad(9th)

This is only currently in freshman year and I still have a lot of time but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on improving my chances.

Also, I was wondering about TAMS credits, because if a school doesn't accept TAMS credit does that mean I would have to redo it in college.

Thank you

Pretty sure TAMS puts a large focus on SAT scores. Might be wrong, but a few of my friends that applied/went to TAMs spent a lot of time prepping for a high score.

Hello! Current TAMS junior here. As ARandomHuman said, it would be beneficial to try and get your SAT score up. I know a few people that got in with scores in the 1300s, but they are very few and I would not count on getting in with that score. As for grades, they seem fine, and if possible, I would definitely consider taking 2-3 AP classes in your sophomore year to show that you can handle the increased coursework. Another major aspect of admissions is your extracurriculars, and it definitely seems like you're on the right track with your HOSA and BPA participation.

Thank you for the advice. I am currently preparing for the SAT and have upped my recent score to 1410, and next year I am planning to take 3-4 Ap's,

Hey, I'm a current TAMS senior, but I came from a tiny school with barely any extracurriculars and no AP's. I had a really bad score of 1150 for the SAT, so it really doesn't seem to be as important as people think it is. Teacher recs are also really important, or at least they were for me. Your grades look fine, and the extracurriculars will definitely help your chances.

I mean no offense, but I believe that is because of their territorial balancing strategy. As far as I know, they do want TAMS student pool to represent the whole of Texas----not just for the metropolis. This strategy likely attributes, at least partially to your success at TAMS. Based on information I have seen around, I say 1150 is probably insufficient for Frisco----fortunate for op, he now has 1410, which seems to me a much better one.

I was just accepted to Class of 2022 on a SAT of 1390. It wasn't until I see here on College Confidential when I realized how lucky I am.
