Once created, accounts are never deleted. An account can be deactivated, but the posts still remain.

So is there any way to edit a post?

I think you get 15 minutes after posting to edit.

I think there should be some kind of balance. I think mods can edit posts and they do a good job of removing names and other identifying details. But giving users the ability to edit whenever they want can change the whole tone of a thread. I was reading one last night that was several years old and it was clear posts had been removed and/or edited. I got the gist of the thread, but it was hard to follow because so much had been altered.

I get that. But when the continued exposure is causing harm to a young person and they are asking for it to be taken down, I think removing the whole thread is a more humane and ethical solution than doubling down on CC's ownership of content. Sure, you can tell people they should have read the TOS before posting, and we all need to learn the lesson that "the internet is forever" even on platforms where we *can* edit or remove our posts. But the hard line that is taken with young users who have made missteps in what they post seems incompatible with the pretense that the platform exists for their benefit.

@Sarrip thanks, I'm well aware of the possibility.

I've been a volunteer contributor for quite a while and have done my bit to support CC's bottom line with what I think is usually pretty high-quality content. If they want to kick me off for expressing an opinion on this issue, it's their loss.

To be clear, the moderators are volunteers as well and I absolutely respect and appreciate their efforts. I simply disagree with CC's overarching policy.

And it's ironic to me that respectful dissent of this nature often does get taken down, while a thread that may be wreaking havoc in some young person's life cannot be.

@aquapt - I agree. I was quite surprised and taken off guard as well.

Per Terms of Service: "Out of respect for both moderators and policies, discussion of moderator actions and forum policies is welcomed via private message or e-mail; these issues are off-topic for the forums."
    https://www.collegeconfidential.com/policies/terms-of-service/

I'll further add that moderators do not set forum policy, so questions on policy should be directed to the @CCadmin_Sorin .
