Is it even possible to transfer to a boarding school midway through a semester?

If due to some special circumstances, a child needs to find a boarding school right away, is it even possible to transfer midway through a semester? Or do we have to apply for next semester?..

I'd call the prospective schools to find out. Most probably next semester or next fall, I'd imagine.
SSAT SAO website may show the schools that are still accepting application. I'd confirm with each school though.

Typically the more selective schools only admit for the fall, but some others will accept mid-term if they still have openings. As payn4ward mentioned, the SSAT website will let you do a school search for schools current considering applicants. Even if a school is not listed there, it's still worth a call. I know of students who were accepted and enrolled after the start of the school year at a somewhat well-known boarding school; this school made no mention of this possibility on its web site.

Thank you for the website recommendation. I am making a list of schools to contact as well.

CUgrad14, I see that you have two threads going on this subject. I responded on the other.

My child was a mid-year transfer (January, 2014). We had unexpected circumstances arise and didn't even begin a search until November 2013. We did use a pricey but excellent consultant, who was able to quickly hone in on which schools had beds available for a mid-year entry. She took the SSAT in December and was accepted into all 4 schools we visited...quite a whirlwind, but she loves her school and we are glad we didn't wait til the following September to make the change. Good luck to you!

In general, the more selective the school, the less likely it will permit a mid-semester transfer.

    FYI, try this site:
