If the application fee and the essay-writing time doesn't mean that much to you, I don't see why not.

Honestly 1st gen latino from NJ? They'll look for every excuse to let you in. If you pull some good grades your Senior year and maybe take some leadership positions in some clubs you stand a pretty fair shot, I'd say. At worst youll have a great shot at some schools on the next tier like Columbia, Penn or Duke.

Read "Outliers: The story of success" by Malcolm Gladwell. I think the AdComs do. In the meantime look up this article. I think it applies to all highly selective schools, not just UChicago. To me it should be required reading for all college applicants:

    Hope this help:

    Twenty years from now
    you will be more disappointed
by the things that you didn't do
than by the ones you did do.

    So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
    Explore. Dream. Discover.

    - Mark Twain -

Give it a shot. Maybe you can get in, maybe not.
But at least give it a shot.
