Who is applying?

I am. I found out about St. Olaf late in the game, but now it is my second favorite school, and if I don't get into Tufts ED II, I will most likely go. I sent in my application because I needed a match and when I got the viewbook, I was sold.

I have decided that it would be a good idea to apply. I applied to Carleton also.

I am applying EA so I should hear back in about a month

I applied EA. It's my first choice, but cost is a major issue. I don't think I will have any problem getting in, but I guess you can never know for sure. I just have to wait and see 1.) if I get in and 2.) if I can get enough financial aid/scholarships to go there, but I absolutely fell in love with the college when I visited.

What are some of the good majors offered at St. Olaf?

They are very strong in the sciences, (especially biology) and music, but really all the departments are very good.

Did anyone else get their EA results back yet? I did today. Deferred - blah. Apparently, my guidance counselor was a bit off on his prediction that I would be admitted for sure. It's kind of disappointing because the only way I can go there is if I'm offered at least some scholarship money/grants. Does anyone know if it is still possible to receive scholarship money if I was to be accepted after being deferred? It seems extremely unlikely, but I was just wondering if it ever happens.

My GPA has risen .08 just from 1st sem grades, and I can write a MUCH better personal statement than the last one. Ew. I read it over recently, and it was one giant cringe-fest. In fact, I think that was a major part of the reason I was deferred, along with my not-so-hot class rank and freshman grades. Anyhow, I can also probably get a couple more good letters of recommendation. So, is there any hope for scholarship money yet? Otherwise, I am probably simply too poor to go...if I even got in. *cries* I think I will try anyway, just because I want to go to the school so badly, and I guess there's always outside scholarships, so it's still possible, even I don't receive anything...once again, if I get in. *sigh* Ah well, that's life for you.

I will end my rambling now. Hope you all get/got better results than mine! :-D

when do regular decisions come out?
  • brownorbustbrownorbust Registered User Posts: 335 Member
^Don't worry snowwhite06, I am sure your improvement in your GPA will do nothing but help you reverse the deferral

Snowwhite 06: Sorry that you were deferred.

My D was accepted EA, received notice 2/2/6.

Since you were deferred, you still have a chance, but it is slim. I suggest you contact your Counselor and be positive. Do not complain, after all you need that Counselor on your side and pushing for you,

That said, scholarship $$$ will undoubtedly be spoken for and hard to obtain, after all it is for students who stand out in comparison to the other applicants.

Since you were deferred, in St Olaf's opinion, others ranked higher.

If you are not eligible for need based financial sid then I fear you will be out of luck re merit based awards.

Suggest further that while you seek to improve your changes at St. Olaf, you assure your changes to attend a good college by quickly applying (with an improved essay) to other colleges that are still accepting applications. Time is short and you must be quick.

    Good luck!

I applied Regular Decision. I submitted sometime in early January...

I recieved a call about two weeks ago, and the officer for my region called to ask if it was okay if he switched me to Early Action. That was very pleasantly surprising.

I got my letter 2/2 also, and I got in.

Snowwhite, be hopeful. You're on an uphill climb. Make sure you have backup schools, though. The secret to being happy with where you're going is to have a plan!

Anyone applying to St. Olaf know when we'll hear on the regents and presidential scholarships?
  • annabelle5206annabelle5206 Registered User Posts: 4 New Member
I got my letter 2/1...I got in! I emailed the scholarship people, and they said that they finalized their decisions for who got invited to the scholarship weekend yesterday, and will be mailing the letters soon, so if you applied for the Regent's scholarship, look out for a letter!
