tyson552tyson552 34 replies2 threads Junior Member
Here are my stats, what do you guys think of my chances? I read on SDSU website that Admission to the upper-division major requires a cumulative GPA for Business majors in finance of 2.9. However, only 20% of all transfer students were accepted last fall according to their common data set.

Major: Business: Finance
GPA: 3.56
AA-T/AS-T? : Yes
Pre-reqs : all except 1
Golden 4: Done
SD Area : No, Central Valley
Other schools : SJSU Cal Poly SLO

The GPA quoted is the minimum GPA required but since SDSU is a competitive school, the actual GPA for admission is much higher. Also SDSU favors local applicants so being outside the local area will make it a tough admit. You have a solid GPA but difficult to determine your chances as out of area applicant.

Although this data is from 2017 Transfer admissions, it will give you an idea of the average Transfer GPA by campus unfortunately not by major. Hopefully, 2018 data will be available soon.

Thanks! This helps a lot. Is the average GPA of those who applied or of those who were admitted?

Long time stalker here! Seriously I’ve probably stalked these forums for years trying to gain any insight into the transfer and admit process for SDSU. Can’t believe I am finally applying. Never would have imagined I’d ave applying there.

Anyhoo, @tyson552 here is a link from SDSU that provides analytics on admissions by each major for the fall 2017 semester.

    https://asir.sdsu.edu/applications-by-major/

    Here are my stats,

    Major: Foundations of Geography
    GPA: 3.12
    AA-T/AS-T: AA-T
    Pre-reqs: All completed
    Golden 4: All completed
Area: Local, San Diego Mesa College (Graduated summer 2018)
Other schools applying to: CSUSB, CSUDH, Cal Poly Pomona, CSUN

I’m gonna take one or two classes at Mesa spring 2019 do I put those classes on the initial application on cal state apply or wait for the supplemental in Jan? How would I enter grades if I put those classes I intend to enroll in on the initial app? Exciting times y’all. Good luck!

    Major: Graphic Design
    GPA: 3.1
AA-T/AS-T: Transfer, no degree or ADT for my major
Pre-reqs: Done in Spring 2019, so far all A's
    Golden 4: A, A, B+, last math in Spring
Area: 40% LBCC (Long Beach), 60% Grossmont (Local)
Other Schools: CSULB, SJSU, Cal Poly Pomona, CSUDH

The reason for my low GPA is because I took 5 semesters at LBCC straight after high school and was not ready at all for college. Dropped out after those 5 semesters with a 2.0. Took a couple years off to work retail, thought about going back to school everyday, and finally bit the bullet and told myself that if I'm going back to school, I'm going all in and not settling for anything less than A's, and keeping B's at a minimum. I have a 3.9 at Grossmont at 24 units, which surprisingly boosted my GPA to what it is now. I thought I'd never get past a 2.7 because of all the units I took at LBCC, but I was able to get approved for academic renewal which helped a lot. Hopefully I get accepted... At this point, I'd be jumping with joy to get accepted to any of the other schools because I'm not getting any younger and feel like I wasted my first years after high school just messing around. This time I know what I want and my work and study ethic has greatly improved. Good luck to everyone as well!

@Soleva I feel the same way! Hopefully you get in. I posted a link in a previous comment above that shows acceptance rate by major. SDSU is competitive but goodluck to you!

Hi guys. I'm a Nursing major hopeful so I may be the odd one out here, but I wanted to post my stats anyway!
    GPA: 4.0
    AA-T/AS-T: No
Prereqs: Will be completed after this semester
Golden 4: Will be completed after this semester (A's and AP credit)
    Area: No, above LA
Other Schools: Chico, Sac State, Channel Islands, Bakersfield, CSULB, San Marcos

Really just hoping to get an acceptance to one CSU! Does SDSU take students from their "service area" over students outside of it?
    Good luck to all!

@47RN the entire selection process seems really random but I heard they give preference to students who have completed 100% of their units at local community colleges here like Mesa, City, Miramar, Grossmont, and Southwestern. Those students are usually TAG or AA degree recipient's while the rest fall under ADT. I think TAG / AA students get preference over ADT students in the local area only.

Good luck SDSU is super impacted hopefully the campus gets an expansion in order to accommodate the increased demand.

Might be a dumb question, but since they send out admission/denial letters in May, in the middle of Spring semester, would people who have all their pre-reqs/golden 4's done before Spring have an advantage? I still have 1 pre-req and golden 4 left to do during Spring, I'm just not sure how much that will honestly influence their decision.

    @Soleva No dumb questions here.

I’d assume that those who have completed everything prior to spring 2019 would not have an advantage. If that were true the admission process would likely be different I suppose.

I graduated in summer, received my degree already and framed it. It actually says on the degree itself “Geography For Transfer” but I’m going to take two more classes in spring since I heard State will accept a maximum of 70 units that way I’ll only have to complete 50 units instead of 60.

What other classes do you need? Try calling state for more insight?

Just spoke with a counselor and I will have everything complete with a 3.5 gpa except calculus. Do you guys still think its worth applying?

It is absolutely still worth it. If you don’t apply you’ll 100% never know if you get accepted or not.

If you apply and get denied at least you can deal with knowing that you tried instead of not knowing what the outcome may have been if you don’t apply.

Just submitted my app too! Good luck everyone! I am surprised this thread is not as long yet compared to last years, the year before, and the year before that.

Anyone planning to attend graduate school / doctoral programs?

    Major: Criminal Justice
    GPA: 3.26
    AA-T/AS-T? : Yes
    Pre-reqs : Yes?
    Golden 4: Done
SD Area : Yes, transfer from Southwestern College
    Other schools : N/A

Hello everyone. I apologize in advance if this is not the correct area to post this but I was wondering if anyone can put my mind at ease with a concern I am having about pre-requisites and major declaration. I applied to transfer following the ADT program outline, however I noticed that SDSU's catalog mentions that to be admitted into the program one must complete a Poli Sci class which I have not yet taken. Can my application be rejected because of this? I have spoken to a counselor at Southwestern College who said this wouldn't be an issue, however I'm not entirely convinced. I have tried to contact the counseling center at SDSU but I've been getting ping pong around.
