Very exciting -- dd just completed her CSU apps for SDSU and SLO last night. Nice to get those out of the way. Now, onward with the next batch of apps.....

@amsunshine That's a relief. I recall SLO in particular being very tricky to complete with the required middle school course (any relevant math and foreign language) requirements to be entered. Good luck!

You aren't kidding -- the portion for the middle school courses was a little crazy-making. But we got it sorted out after talking to the admissions office for SLO. They were so nice.

How long does it typically take for SDSU to respond by email acknowledging receipt of an application and a link to set up the student portal? It's been a week, and nothing from SDSU, but SLO responded within one day acknowledging receipt.

@amsunshine: Each CSU campus has a different timeline. Give it 2 weeks and then call admissions if longer.

Does someone know why the CSU application asks for parent's income? I thought that type of info would be provided after acceptance? Do they take that into consideration for admission decisions? My son estimated our income (just from memory of last year's taxes). He may have estimated high because we didn't take into account 401k and health insurance pre-tax items. But I'm sure the estimate is within 5%.

@diegodavis: The parent’s income is more informational but for low incomes entered, it will trigger a fee waiver for eligible applicants. If and when you file the FASFA, that is what will be used by the financial aid office.

Question for those who have received an email about and/or actually received the local merit scholarship in past years: What is the process for applying? There is no link to an application, and the email doesn't specify anything about an application, even though it states dd qualifies. Is this typical?

Nevermind about the Merit Scholarship question I asked above. The admissions office let us know that application information will be sent out once admissions decisions are made, which won't be until mid December, I'm guessing. So, fyi, the page on the SDSU website is inaccurate when it states the application period is open from mid-October through December.

Someone please chance me! Applying for Business-Finance at SDSU as a Freshman.

    CSU GPA: 3.95
    SAT Superscore: 730 Math 700 Reading/Writing
    In-state (not in SD region)

I know that the Business program at SDSU and the entire school in general receives a ton of applicants each year so I am expecting it to be extremely competitive. I'm not really sure if I should switch the major I am applying as to increase my chances.

Also, when would you send your high school transcripts (in progress or final) to CSU campuses (CP Slo, CSULB, SDSU) as well as your standardized test scores?

@KristopherG24: Your eligibility index calculates out to (3.95 x800) + (730 + 700) = 4590. A target EI for SDSU is 4459 so you are above that target and have a good chance for an acceptance.

SDSU admits by major and you will be admitted into the Pre-Business Admin major and then need to take pre-req courses with passing grades to continue into the upper division courses. I would apply as a Business-Finance major. SDSU had 1362 applicants and accepted 564 so a 41% acceptance rate.

You will send your SAT/ACT scores in now. Deadline for SDSU is December 1 and they only take up to the November sitting.

Transcripts do not need to be sent unless the specific school asks for a Mid-year transcript (usually SDSU will ask once accepted). Final transcripts are due July after you have enrolled.

Is that December 1st deadline for the Cal State Apply Unofficial scores that applicants manually enter or for the Official Collegeboard reports where applicants enter school codes to be sent?

@KristopherG24: The Cal state apply application deadline is November 30th where you report your SAT/ACT scores (these are your unofficial test scores).

The official test score deadline is dependent upon the Cal State campus. Some have December deadlines and some have January deadlines. Unless you are taking the SAT/ACT in November or December, you should send your scores now.

My son just saved his CSU application as a pdf file for review. However, on the top of each page, it prints "Cal State Apply 2021". I think it's a mistake of the CSU application system. It should say 2020, right? Did any of you notice this?

Yes, mine say 2021 at the top as well. Good catch. We didn't notice that before. I doubt it is a problem. DD has her portals all set up for fall 2020 admission, so it must just be a typo.

@Gumbymom - you say SDSU needs official test scores by 12/1.

However, I called admissions just last week and was told that official SAT/ACT test scores for SDSU are to be sent in only if offered admission. Where is the information about needing by 12/1 (I can't find anything on their website). Thanks in advance!

@sdmom22: my niece called to confirm test submission dates but she also asked about the Honors program so maybe you have to submit the test scores for the Priority deadline for the Honors college?
Things may have changed since my son applied. You had to submit either SAT or ACT by December.
If you are submitting test scores for other campuses, would you not also send them to SDSU and especially if you are done with testing? Last sitting that SDSU considers is the November sitting.

@Gumbymom My S has 3.63 CSU GPA and 1450 SAT; EI: 4350. He is applying as pre-speech, language and hearing sciences of SDSU. Do you know the EI for this major?
