SAT Test Postponed

ooVuZeLaooVuZeLa 21 replies9 threads Junior Member
I live in NJ and my SAT was postponed on Saturday to the 17th. This is a huge problem for me and I was wondering two things:

Do scores for the makeup test come out later than everybody who took it on the 3rd or do they come out the same day?

Also, is it possible to switch test centers in the next 3 days to a test center that is open on Saturday?

The only reason why I am concerned is because I am applying early decision and I really needed the scores to come in as soon as possible. Now that the test is postponed 2 weeks, it makes the chances of the scores coming in time even worse.

Contact the school where you're applying ED. They can give you guidance. It's probably too late to change test centers, and where would you change to? Standby registrations ended on Monday, and they obviously don't have the capacity to handle everyone from your test center trying to go to others.

None of the New Jersey closings are listed on the CB website - and they have quite a few listed, particularly in New York. That suggests to me that perhaps most of the test centers in NJ will have postponed tests, and you would have to travel a significant distance to get to an open test site. If you have indicated on your application that you are testing on that the november date, colleges will know to expect your scores. They should have time to still evaluate your application, even with later scores. Only they individually can tell you how to handle this. Many east coast schools have extended their deadlines (and D even got emails from a couple on the west coast offering to work with her, so they might offer extensions for east coast students, if requested). It's not like this is under your control; give them a call.

Update on our own situation. Can no longer find the list of closed test centers on their website, but one of the 2 test sites in our town has postponed until November 17th as well. D is thankfully registered at the site closer to our house (not her own HS, but a local boarding school). They don't have space to accomodate all local testers, and they didn't opt to move the test to the other HS in town (which hosted last month). They had anticipated opening the school tomorrow, and holding testing, but were unable to finish roof work. This was posted at 1:43 this afternoon, so they're cutting it close.

OP, you're obviously not the only one in this situation. Have you contacted your ED school? What did they say?

one question, what school are you supposed to be testing at?
I'm registered at Hoboken High school and although I dont live there I've heard they got hit hard so im not sure if its cancelled or not
as for ED, I contacted the school I'm applying ED to in case mine does get postponed and they said that they would consider my application without the test and not penalize me if the postponed scores dont arrive in time. im assuming most schools would act similarly

opetroulas, you should have gotten an email if it was cancelled or postponed. Hoboken is not on the online list as postponed - but then neither is our local high school. Your best bet is to show up ready to take the test, if you can.

The list of closed centers is here: http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-test-center-closings?affiliateId=satbfmodule&bannerID=TexctCenterClosing

unfortunately i cant access the email that i made the collegeboard account with, so im just checking that list periodically, and hoping somebody else registered at hoboken could tell me any relevant info.
ive heard the school lost power though so i dont think the test will be happening without lights

Try calling the school, or checking the school district website. Our HS is still not on the official list at the CB website, and I don't know if emails went out, but there is a pop-up notice on our school district website. Good luck!

Well, I'm applying to Cornell ED and I just called up admissions and the woman speaking basically said they can't do anything about it.

This goes to show how procrastination can bite you in the end. I do know that a lot of schools have offered to work with applicants though. Collegeboard did mention on Twitter that the deadline is for the app and not SAT scores, not sure what that means, but CB doesn't seem concerned.
