# Is there a possibility that an SAT question could have the wrong answer?

Registered User Posts: 59 Junior Member
Im going through my SAT from October (I paid extra to get the question and answer service) and I have come across a math question that I have done multiple times. I am not getting the answer that is supposed to be correct but am instead getting an answer that is another option choice. I have already asked many friends who are very good at math and they agree with me. Is it legal for me to post the question on here or should I just call the college board? Thank you!

I would contact the College Board. Mistakes are very, very, very rare, but occasionally there are stories of them happening.

You can post the question here so we can check it. (Question released through the QAS may be discussed.)

Let's see what I get: set up a proportion, 16 is to 2/3 as x is to 1/3. 2/3x = 1/3(16) so x = 8.
So, you would need 8 socks, meaning 12 removed.
I'm with you on this one. Maybe the answer key made the common mistake of missing the "must be removed" rather than the actual number of socks.

Best of luck! Let us know how it goes. I would be interested to know if there is an official process for this sort of thing.

I took the October test as well. I am very interested to know what the outcome will be. Please keep this updates :)

@alexameagan21 Historically, it has happened before. But it's quite rare that CB would screw up a math question.

Is it possible that you may have misread the question, or forgotten one really tiny detail (I have seen picky questions like this before)? I feel that if the question were actually wrong, there would be a ton of discussion about it here and elsewhere...

I got an 800 on the October Math SAT so I could take a look.
