SAT and ACT Preparation

linhha930linhha930 0 replies2 threads New Member
My high school requires me to take the ACT but I also want to take the SAT. Does anyone know how I can study for both? Are both tests pretty similar or do I have to take different approaches in studying for each test?

The ACT has a science section, which makes it different from the SAT. The math sections are similar, but the ACT is all calculator active, whereas only half of the SAT is. The reading is similar as well, but the SAT has one more passage. You should take the ACT that your school requires and then look at the scores, if you think you could do better on the SAT, then take that.

They’re quite similar. The ACT “science” section isn’t science content, it’s data, charts, interpretation, etc. - not extremely different from skills you would study for SAT math.

Take an official practice test of each under actual conditions - on paper, one sitting, timing, breaks, etc., and see if you perform better on the SAT or feel more comfortable with it.

I decided to take SAT because it seems easier (not easy but more clear)

They are similar, but there are notable differences. You need to take different factors into account.

The ACT is a much faster-paced. Timing is critical. Do not allow yourself to get hung up on difficult questions because you are losing chances to answer easier questions.

The SAT, especially reading, is a little more convoluted and you need to read very carefully to ensure you understand what a question is asking. The timing is more generous.

IMO, the SAT verbal sections are more difficult than the ACT verbal sections. The math and science sections are more difficult on the ACT than the math section of the SAT.

It’s a case of choosing your poison.
