how does a 690 look exactly to college adcoms?

objectively, a 690 vs. 700 shouldn't be any different from a 700 and a 710; do adcoms see it that way, or is that psychological difference between 6XX and 7XX huge?

The psychological difference between 690 and 700 is, in most admissions officers' minds, presumably greater than that between 700 and 710. Unless our awareness of the tendency of our intuitions to draw this disproportionate distinction yields exaggerated compensation, it really couldn't be any other way in situations in which the section scores were not summed before human analysis.

But neither difference is very big, so the difference between the differences is unlikely to be very big either.
