DIFFICULT physics questions

Sparkkid1234Sparkkid1234 Registered User Posts: 124 Junior Member
Hello CCers, I'm having a hard time understanding these questions, can u please help me:
1. The mean distance from Saturn to the sun is 9 times greater than the mean distance from earth to the sun. How long is a saturn year? I dont see any connection between "saturn year" and "mean distance"?? anyone
2. A uniform meter stick of mass 1kg is hanging from a thread attached at the stick's midpoint. One block of mass m= 3 kg hangs from the left end of the stick, and another block, of unknown mass m, hangs below the 80 cm mark on the meter stick. If the stick remains at rest in the horizontal position, what is m?
thanks in advance

    1. That's a weird question, I think it assumes us to expect that all planets rotate around the sun at a constant rate (which I'm pretty sure isn't true). Assuming that's what they intended, a "Saturn year" would be 9x an "Earth year".

    2. 5kg, I believe. Haven't done these in a while though

@rockuang‌ also I often encouter questions in which breaking the force down into its horizontal and vertical components is needed, but I dont know why and when to break down? can u explain?
