GUEST STUDENT OF THE WEEK: ehales3 is a rising sophomore at Cornell University. As a high school student, she always thought that she wanted to study in a more urban environment, but has grown to love Ithaca and all that it offers. ASK HER ANYTHING!
As we work to adjust to the current reality, make sure to check out these dedicated COVID-19 resources: our directory of virtual campus tours, our directory of extended deadlines, as well as the list of schools going test optional this fall.
Retake SAT Math 2 thrice?
My sophomore daughter is currently doing AP Cal BC. She took the SAT Math 2 in her freshman year (after Pre-Cal) and got a 750. She repeated it this last Sat after prepping really well with 800 on most practice tests. However, it seems this test was unusually hard (heard this from several other students too) so she thinks she may get in the 770-780 range and maybe an 790/800 if there is a generous curve.
She is looking to apply to selective STEM schools so was hoping for an 800. The question we have is that should we wait and see what she gets and repeat if necessary? Or play safe and cancel these scores and repeat in May? A couple of colleges on her list (CMU and Georgetown) require all subject scores to be sent. Should we worry that showing 3 attempts for a subject test may work against her? Alternative would be to cancel these scores and retake the test in May. Thanks!!
